Picture it...a cafe in Paris...1881=20
And we aren't talking about the Kander & Ebb show! Simply, it's a great
way to experience a performer. No character to hide behind and often the
fourth wall is completely broken; this genre is an intensely personal
evening of song and stories, delivered in a simple, honest way in an
intimate space like Kennedy's at Playhouse Square.=20
And the audience is involved every step of the way. Participating in a
direct, emotional conversation with artist and leaves feeling contacted
and personally touched.=20
Back in France, the word "cabaret" referred to any business serving
liquor (The Cabaret Sampler is no different!). However, the culture of
cabaret began a change in 1881, with the opening of Le Chat Noir in the
Monmartre district of Paris. It was an informal saloon where poets,
artists and composers could share ideas and compositions. Performers got
to test new materials, and audiences enjoyed a stimulating evening for
the price of a few drinks - it was a win- win proposition! Le Chat Noir
attracted such notables as Maupassant, Debussy and Satie.=20
The Cabaret of today is very similar in style to those days gone by in
France. Performers are able to test their set in front of an audience in
the hopes of developing the 15-minute set into a full-fledge cabaret
show - that's the goal of The Cleveland Cabaret Project.=20

<P>Back in France, the word "cabaret" referred to any =

serving liquor (The Cabaret Sampler is no different!). =
However, the=20
culture of cabaret began a change in 1881, with the opening =
of Le=20
Chat Noir in the Monmartre district of Paris. It was an =
informal=20
saloon where poets, artists and composers could share ideas =
and=20
compositions. Performers got to test new materials, and =
audiences=20
enjoyed a stimulating evening for the price of a few drinks =
- it was=20
a win- win proposition! Le Chat Noir attracted such notables =
as=20
Maupassant, Debussy and Satie. </P>
<P>The Cabaret of today is very similar in style to those =
days gone=20
by in France. Performers are able to test their set in front =
of an=20
audience in the hopes of developing the 15-minute set into a =
full-fledge cabaret show - that's the goal of The Cleveland =
Cabaret=20
