Albi
Gorn, directed by Dorothy Silver and playing May 5 - 22 at the Mayfield
JCC's Halle Theatre. The run of To Know Him also marks the final =
production
in the historic Halle Theatre. The show will preview on Thursday, May 5 =
at
8:00 p.m. Opening Night is Saturday, May 7 at 8:30 p.m.=20

=20

This is the fourth event of the JCC's recently launched 2004-05 Arts &

=20

To Know Him, the winner of the 2002 Dorothy Silver Playwriting =
Competition,
"was a major hit with the audience at the staged reading, and cried out =
for
a fully staged production! Seldom has a play emerged from the =
competition
with such creativity, wit, humor and insight into relationships as To =
Know
Him".

=20

In this three-person play a young female rabbinical student bounces into =
the
hospital room of a middle-aged man with all her do-good intentions.
Irritated by her and consumed with his illness, he rebuffs her attempts =
to
cheer him. She is determined to make a difference and persists until a
relationship, of sorts, develops around a common interest -- the movies. =
As
their relationship grows the two discover more common ground than they =
were
prepared to admit.

=20

"To Know Him was one of the most enthusiastically-received winners of =
the
JCC's annual playwriting competition at its staged reading two seasons =
ago,
and I look forward to its theatrical fulfillment as the last production =
at
the Blanche R. Halle Theatre of the Mayfield JCC. World premieres are
always an occasion of great excitement, and this one has that rare blend =
of
comedy and content that will move and entertain at the same time," said =
To
Know Him director, Dorothy Silver. Silver has served as director of
performing arts at the JCC for 12 years and as a longtime resident guest
director of Karamu Theatre. She has both performed and directed at most
Cleveland area theaters including Great Lakes Theater Festival and The
Cleveland Play House as well as the American Place Theatre in New York.

=20

"Albi Gorn is a clever and empathic writer who has created a moving and
wonderfully entertaining script. I'm pleased to have a final =
opportunity to
work at the Halle Theatre on this thought-provoking play that deals so
delightfully with the themes of hope and reconciliation," added Silver.
Playwright Gorn will be in Cleveland to attend the opening night
performance, Saturday, May 7 and will be the guest speaker at the
post-performance discussion that evening.=20
