An affectionate spoof of campy 1930s musicals, Dames at Sea combines =
torch songs and tap dance to tell the story of na=EFve Ruby, the =
last-minute star of a new show that has just lost its theatre and must =
move to the deck of a battleship. With an off-Broadway opening in 1968, =
the original starred Bernadette Peters. This show has history at The =
University of Akron, where it made its educational theatre debut in =
1971. An alumni cast/crew reunion is planned for the May 6th =
performance

Dames at Sea music composer Jim Wise was a native of Akron. Born in =
1919, Wise also wrote special material for Pat Carroll, Dody Goodman and =
Gloria DeHaven. Along with Dames at Sea, he wrote the musical Yankee =
Ingenuity.
