Written by Mois=E9s Kaufman and The Members of Tectonic Theater, The =
Laramie
Project is a documentary drama which depicts the reactions of Laramie,
Wyoming residents to the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay college
student. His murder was brutal in the extreme and the two young men who
committed it then left him barely alive, tied to a post for 18 hours =
before
he was found and, five days later, died. This true story describes what
happens to a small-town community after this heinous hate crime.

Kaufman and his colleagues made six trips to Laramie, Wyo. during the 18
months following the October 1998 murder The Laramie Project is the =
result
of 200 interviews conducted with Laramie residents.=20

The Kent State production has eight student-actors playing 63 roles,
challenging the performers with split-second character changes. As part =
of
the Roe Green Visiting Director Series, Guest Director Sue Ott-Rowlands
joins Kent State to direct this award-winning production.  Ott-Rowlands =
is
currently a Professor and Chair of the University of Toledo=92s =
Department of
Theatre and Film. She is the Artistic Director and co-founder of the
Cleveland Women=92s Theatre Project and former Associate Artistic =
Director of
Round House Theatre in Washington DC.

In conjunction with the production, the School will also host its second
annual panel discussion series, =93Spotlight on Success=94.  The final
discussion entitled =93Windows on the World: Theatre & Social Change=94 =
will be
held prior to the production of The Laramie Project, on Tuesday, April =
19th
at 6:30 PM in E. Turner Stump Theatre.  Professor Clyde Simon will serve =
as
moderator.  The panel will consist of Sue Ott-Rowlands, Professor and =
Chair,
Department of Theatre and Film of The University of Toledo; Deb Lemire,
Artistic Director of Queen Bee Productions; Joyce Casey MA=9282, =

Director of Dobama Theatre. This event is free and open to the public.

School of Theatre & Dance performances are Tuesday =96 Saturday at 8 PM =
