ACTOR AUDITIONS (PAID, NON-UNION)

Tyst (pronounced tüst) a nonprofit organization concentrating on 
Scandinavian performances, is launching a summer season of plays at Hiram 
College. There will be an open call for non-Equity actors on Monday, May 2, 
between 7 to 9 p.m. at Hayden Auditorium just north of Route 82 on Route 
700. Please call the Tyst office at (216) 241-2510 to schedule an audition 
time.

>From Cleveland, Hiram is 45 minutes to the east. Take Route 422 past Lake 
Punderson and turn right at Route 700 in Welshfield. Hiram is 5 miles to the 
south and the theatre is on your right once you reach campus. Look for steps 
leading to an entrance with white pillars.

The directors (David Vosburgh, Chad Stutz and Adrienne Moon) will be 
conducting the auditions and actors will be asked to read from the following 
scripts:

• Ghosts, by Henrik Ibsen (translation tba)
David Vosburgh, Director
Jak Walker, Asst. Director
Mrs. Alving - late 40s/early 50s. Strong, independent
Regina - 20s. Attractive, headstrong
Engstrand - 40s. Workman, coarse, conniving
Pastor Manders - 50s. Ultra-conservative
Oswald - 20s. Artist, free-thinker

First rehearsal May 16, Performances Thurs. - Sun., June 9 – 26

• Dead and Gone to Granny's, by Jussi Wahlgren
Chad Stutz, Director
Patrick - Male, 30's or 40's; conservative businessman at the end of his 
rope (literally)
Freddie - Male, Patrick's younger brother; an artist, the black sheep of the 
family (think "Gob" on "Arrested Development")
Linda - Female, 30's or 40's; suburban trophy wife with a talent for 
manipulation

First rehearsal on or before June 13, Performances Thurs. - Sun., June 30 – 
July 17

• Someone Is Going to Come, by Jon Fosse
David Vosburgh, Director
Jak Walker, Asst. Director
Man # 1 - 50s. Insecure, showing his age
Man # 2 - 30s. Confident, quietly sensual
Woman - 40s. Mature sexuality

First Rehearsal on or before July 1. Performances Thurs.-Sun., July 21 - 
Aug. 7.

• The Pelican, by August Strindberg (new translation, not yet available)
Adrienne Moon, Director

The Mother (Elise) - 40s. strong willed. selfish. proper. scheming. a martyr 
in her own eyes.
The Son (Frederick) - 20s. intellectual. thin. emotionally fragile. 
sensitive. But also very bitter and angry.
The Daughter (Gerda) - 20 but emotionally, physically, and psychologically 
younger than her age. Lives in her own world and does her best to avoid 
life's harsh realities.
The Son-in-Law (Axel) - mid-late 20s. military man. strong build. 
unemotional. intimidating. motivated by money and power.
Margaret (the cook) - late 40s-mid 50s. strong willed. bitter. angry. 
exhausted. not afraid of Mother in the slightest.

First Rehearsal on or before July 25. Performances Thurs.-Sun.,  Aug. 11-28.

** Auditions will take place in Drury Hall, a rehearsal space on the second 
floor.
