Polish Joke at Beck Center Extended!!

Come and see what the Critics and Audiences are talking about!

=20

Lakewood, OH - The Beck Center for the Arts extends Polish
Joke with two additional performances on Friday and Saturday, May 6th
and 7th in the Studio Theater. Written by David Ives, Polish Joke tells
the story of Jasiu Sadlowski, a young Polish-American boy struggling to
find his identity and come to terms with his heritage.

A satirical yet non-offensive look at views of diversity in America,
Polish Joke is a brilliant comedy with universal significance. Young
Jasiu's desperate attempts to escape his heritage and the discrimination
of others ultimately force him to come face to face with his ethnic past
and his own internal prejudice. Through all of the laughs, the play
makes a strong statement about self-acceptance, tolerance of differences
and the need to not take ourselves so seriously.=20

As Tony Brown, Plain Dealer Theater Critic, says in his Laughing at
Cleveland can be fun article from April 19th=20

". . . at the end of the evening, this extremely funny play tells us
something about who we all are as ethnic beings (we are all ethnic) and
as racists (and we are all racists)." In addition, Brown comments in
his Review of Polish Joke (April 12, 2005), "Big laughs and even bigger
kielbasa are the rewards for those venturing to the far side of Lakewood
to the Beck Center for the Arts for the hilarious area premiere of David
Ives' excoriating satire, Polish Joke." "The entire production . . . is
everything anyone could expect from a satire: funny, cutting and
instructive. Do not miss this, no matter what your ethnicity."

Westlife's Art Thomas notes in his review titled Beck's Polish Joke
Embraces Ethnic Identity (April 20, 2005). "There's a whole lotta
laughin' and a message that's not bombastic in Beck's Polish Joke."

Directed by Jerrold Scott, the production features Greg Wenz as Jasiu
and ensemble members John Busser, Leslie Feagan*, Sheila E. Maloney*,
and Kimberly Weston. The Beck Center's production of Polish Joke is
sponsored by LakewoodBuzz.com, Cleveland Scene Magazine and 90.3 WCPN
ideastreamsm. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and
Sundays at 3:00 p.m. =20
