Il sogno di Scipione is a wonderfully imaginative story steeped in the great poetry of Metastasio and the breathtaking music of young Mozart. This allegory tells about a young man, Scipione (tenor), falling asleep in the palace of African king Massinissa. In a dream (il sogno) two goddesses visit him, La Costanza and La Fortuna. The young man is torn in his decision whether he should follow one or the other. His grandfather and his father, wandering among celestial spheres, advise Scipione in ways that help him mature. What will he do? Metastasio does give an answer, and so will Opera Circle.

Il sogno di Scipione is Opera Circle’s 5th Mozart production, following The Abduction from the Seraglio (1998), Il re pastore (2002), Zaide (2003) and Così fan tutte (2004). The upcoming opera features new voices of Opera Circle, Samuel Levine tenor, as well as Christina Vernon and Amanda-Joyce Abbott sopranos, side by side with the acclaimed voices of Dorota Sobieska, John Camuso and Troy Ayers, all acting in costume, with chamber orchestra under the baton of Jacek Sobieski. The chorus of Forest City Singers under the direction of Virginia Mast will join Opera Circle. Supertitles in English will help everyone fully understand and enjoy the story.

The production is made possible by the Cleveland Foundation, Kulas Foundation, The George Gund Foundation, John P. Murphy Foundation, Polish-American Cultural Center JPII, Ohio Arts Council, & many other generous sponsors. For information, call Opera Circle at (216) 441 2822 or visit www.operacircle.org
