Summer Dance Workshop for Teens and Adults

with

David Shimotakahara, Scott Meyers, and Karina Richter

July 11 - 17, 2005

            Lakewood, OH--  The Beck Center for the Arts proudly
announces a summer dance workshop for serious dancers and teachers from
July 11 to 17.  The workshop will be facilitated by noted instructors,
David Shimotakahara, Scott Meyers, and Karina Richter. The workshop will
consist of two daily sessions. The morning session from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. will consist of ballet technique and repertoire training from
Mr. Shimotakahara. During the 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. afternoon session,
instructors Scott Meyers and Karina Richter will focus on modern dance
technique, movement phrases and repertoire. A lecture-demonstration on
Sunday July 17 will showcase the studio.=20

David Shimotakahara has been a member of the Atlanta Ballet, Boston
Repertory Ballet, Kathryn Posin Dance Company, the Pittsburgh Ballet
Theater, and the Ohio Ballet. His repertory experience includes the work
of Balanchine, Tudor, Jooss, Pilobolus, and Paul Taylor. He has worked
with Laura Dean, Lynne Taylor Corbet, Heinz Poll and many others. Mr.
Shimotakahara has choreographed extensively for theater and dance
including local venues such as Great Lakes Theater Festival, The
Cleveland Opera, Ohio Ballet, and Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art.
Mr. Shimotakahara is the founder of the acclaimed GroundWorks
Dancetheater.=20

Karina Richter danced with the Santa Fe Opera, the Repertory Project,
the O.D.C., the Tom Evert Dance Company, and Danzahoy in Venezuela. She
was a soloist with the Harris Mandafounis Dance Company in Greece.

Scott Meyers has performed with the Santa Fe Opera, the Oberlin Dance
Collective, Peter Pucci, the San Francisco Moving Company, and Mark
Taylor among others. He toured with the Enrico Labayen's Lab Project in
Germany and danced on tour throughout Bolivia. He has choreographed with
Wendy Diamond and Karina Richter.

Il sogno di Scipione is Opera Circle’s 5th Mozart production, following The Abduction from the Seraglio (1998), Il re pastore (2002), Zaide (2003) and Così fan tutte (2004). The upcoming opera features new voices of Opera Circle, Samuel Levine tenor, as well as Christina Vernon and Malody Moore sopranos, side by side with the acclaimed voices of Dorota Sobieska, John Camuso and Troy Ayers, all acting in costume, with chamber orchestra under the baton of Jacek Sobieski. The chorus of Forest City Singers under the direction of Virginia Mast will join Opera Circle. Supertitles in English will help everyone fully understand and enjoy the story.
