MICHAEL GLABICKI
of Rusted Root
PLUS an acoustic set by WATERBAND

Friday, May 13
8:00 PM

Glabicki began his solo career by playing an acoustic set by himself before Rusted Root shows and now has moved on to playing whole shows alone. "It's basically to try out new material," he said. "I'm working on a solo album right now, and it's really good for me to get a reaction from the audience." Rusted Root is famous for their unique style of mixing pop themes with a vast array of African and Latin instrumentation. Glabicki, however, intends to take his solo career in a more rock'n roll direction, citing Radiohead, Neil Young, John Lennon, and P.J. Harvey as inspirations.

"It's a little bit more out and in your face," he said. "It's not so community-oriented and jolly-oriented. It's a little more intimate material."

OHIO CASCADE
MUSIC FESTIVAL

Saturday, May 14
7:30 PM

The Kent Stage will be filled with the foot-stomping and sweet sounds of old-time and Celtic music during the first annual Ohio Cascade Music Festival, featuring three popular area folk acts: Crabapple, Lisa and Heather Malyuk and the Brick Road Ramblers.

Guitarist/singer Crabapple has been a fixture at area folk venues, where he lends his distinctive vocals and picking to a wide range of genres, including Appalachian, country western and blues. When joined by the Malyuk sisters on hammered dulcimer and violin, the three performers create signature arrangements of traditional tunes.

Lisa and Heather Malyuk (dulcimer, violin and guitar) have obtained a large following among their peers and audiences in northeast Ohio. They were recently featured on the nationally syndicated broadcast of WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour, in addition to receiving local airplay and performing at festivals throughout the region. Their two CDs and dynamic live performances showcase musicianship that ranges from electric to elegant -- a true feast for the hammered dulcimer connoisseur.

The Brick Road Ramblers, a four-member string band, are eight-year veterans of the local folk circuit. Featuring banjo, fiddle, guitar, dobro, mandolin, concertina, and stand-up bass, BRR shows are packed with traditional tunes and popular songs done with an old-time twist. Their three CDs -- Porch Music, Live at Lock 3, and Medina Rose -- have garnered them local and national airplay and devoted fans who are lovers of fast-picking and four-part harmonies. Get ready for a hand-clapping, rousing good time!

Tickets: $10.00
Students: $5.00, and children under 5 are free

This Old Gingerbread House

presented by Children's Musical Theater of Kent

Sunday May 15
3PM

Presented by Kent Parks and Rec. and The Kent Stage, this performance is the culmination of a 12 week children's theather workshop. With a cast of children ranging in age from 5 to 10, This Old Gingerbread House is a blending of the children's classic, "Little Red Riding Hood" and the PBS television program, "This Old House."

When Hansel and Gretel's house is chewed away by hungry neighbors, the two are left homeless, wandering the forest for a place to live. Realizing the consequences of their actions, the community bands together and works to rebuild the house they have destroyed. Eventually, Hansel and Gretel are restored to their happy gingerbread home. Directed by Diane Dudek with assistance from Kim Pischera, Assistant Director and Production Assistant and Sue Rose, Music Director and Production Coordinator, this is the third production by Children's Musical Theater of Kent. Doors open at 2PM and the play begins at 3.
Tickets $5.00 at the door.
