                Lakewood, OH--  The Beck Center for the Arts and
artistic director, Scott Spence presents Moby Dick! The Musical, opening
June 3, 2005 and running through July 3 in the Studio Theater.

            St. Godfrey's School for girls is in danger of closing, but
the students have found a way to save it:   creating a musical version
of the classic novel, Moby Dick.  Using any resources they can get their
hands on, the girls create their show with none other than their
headmistress (played by a man in drag) in the role of Captain Ahab.
This London cult-classic of the 1990's does to Herman Melville what
Rocky Horror did to late-night horror flicks. =20

Moby Dick!  The Musical is directed by the Beck Center's artistic
director, Scott Spence.  "There are many pieces of classic literature
that should never, ever, EVER be 'musicalized,'" says Spence.  "Perhaps
the greatest example is Melville's MOBY DICK. This, of course, is the
precise reason it has been. Who can resist rhyming 'hellville' with
'Melville?'  And where else can a one-legged sea dog deliver an eleventh
hour disco turn that would make even Donna Summer seasick? An amazing
cast of 14 lead by Kevin Joseph Kelly as the headmistress-turned-Ahab
will keep the joint jumping and Beck's Studio Theater awash in laughter
and triple-entendre."

The Beck Center's production of Moby Dick!  The Musical is sponsored by
Lakewoodbuzz.com.  Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and
Sundays at 3:00 p.m.   A special late night show is scheduled for
Friday, June 24 at 11:30 p.m.
