About the Show
Clinging to each other in their loneliness and alienation, George and his=20
simple-minded friend Lennie dream, as drifters will, of a place to call thei=
r=20
own. But after they come to work on a ranch in the Salinas Valley their hope=
s,=20
like "the best laid schemes o' mice an' men," begin to go awry.=20

"A thriller, a gripping tale ... Steinbeck has touched the quick."
=E2=80=94 The New York Times=20

** The roles of George and Lennie have already been cast**

Characters

Candy: An old, crippled man who has lost his hand, Candy is the swamper at=20
the ranch. He remains attached to his aging dog, which has become so weak an=
d=20
sickly that it depends entirely on Candy to survive.

Curley: (20's-30's) - The son of the ranch owner, Curley is a man of short=20
stature who is nevertheless a formidable pugilist. Curley is aggressive,=20
boastful and cocky, with a volatile temper and a tendency to provoke conflic=
t, as he=20
does with Lennie. Part of Curley's bravado stems from anxiety over his new=20
wife, who everyone widely suspects of being a tramp.=20

Curley's Wife: (20's) - Generally considered to be a tramp by the men at the=
=20
ranch, Curley's Wife is the only major character in Of Mice and Men whom=20
Steinbeck does not give a name. She dislikes her husband and feels desperate=
ly=20
lonely at the ranch, for she is the only woman and feels isolated from the o=
ther=20
men, who openly scorn her.=20

Crooks: (30's or older)The stable buck at the ranch, Crooks is also the only=
=20
black. A proud and bitter man, Crooks has a cynical intelligence and a=20
contemptuous demeanor that he uses to prevent others from inevitably excludi=
ng him=20
because of his race.=20

Carlson: (20's -30's) A man who works at the ranch, Carlson complains about=20
Candy's dog and eventually offers to put the old dog out of its misery.=20

Slim: (20's - 40's) The jerkline skinner at the ranch, Slim is a seemingly=20
ageless man who carries himself with great gravity.=20

Whit: (20's) He is one of the workers at the ranch, a young man.=20

The Boss: (40's-50's) The boss of the ranch is Curley's father.=20
