SPOTLIGHTS OFFER THEATER CAMP FOR YOUTH

The Broadview Heights Spotlights Community Theater is pleased to announce its sixth annual Youth Theater Camp. Theater Camp is a recreational program intended to introduce grade-school aged children to the performing arts through fun, age-appropriate activities. This year’s Theater Camp will center on the theme “Monsters in Your Imagination.” The camp will be held Monday, August 1 through Friday, August 5, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Broadview Heights Cultural Arts Building. A performance showcasing the children’s work will be held on Friday evening, August 5. Interested parties may complete a registration application at the Broadview Heights Recreation Center.

Children enrolled in the Spotlights’ Theater Camp will participate in a multitude of activities designed to introduce all aspects of theater, including acting, stage craft, music, movement, lighting, sound, costumes, and makeup. Under the direction of experienced, adult teachers and volunteers from the Spotlights organization, the children will apply their newfound skills by creating and starring in their own theatrical production. The children will have the opportunity to showcase their talents by performing their show for an audience at the Camp’s closing.

Grade school children (grades 1-6 in September of 2005) are eligible to enroll in the Spotlights Theater Camp. No experience is required. Fees are as follows: $120 per child for residents of Broadview Heights; $130 per child for non-residents; $110 per child for members of the Recreation Center (deduct $10 for each additional child in the same family, junior interns excluded). Fees cover enrollment in the Theater Camp and include swim time at the Broadview Heights Recreation Department and two tickets to the closing show.

Theater Camp also offers opportunities for some older children to participate as Student Interns, who assist Camp teachers throughout the week. Children in Junior High (Grades 7-8 in September of 2005) may apply for a Junior Intern position; these students will receive 50% discount of the enrollment fee. High school students may act as Senior Interns (no fee required). Students interested in participating as Junior or Senior Interns MUST complete an application, as opportunities for Student Interns are limited.

Interested parties may complete a registration application at the Broadview Heights Recreation Center. After-care can be arranged through the Recreation Department. Two scholarships (based on need) will be offered by the Broadview Heights Spotlights Community Theater. Applications for "economic-based scholarships" may be obtained in the Human Services Department. Space is limited; please register early. For more information, call 440-526-4357.
