Hudson Players Captures Five Theater Awards 

The Hudson Players' production of "I Hate Hamlet" has received five acting
and directing awards and has qualified the troupe for state competition.  On
July 9 and 10, the 2005 Ohio Community Theater Association (OCTA) Regional
Competition was held at Hudson's Barlow Community Center.  More than 130
actors, directors, technicians and theater lovers attended this event.
Eleven community theatres performed thirty-minute excerpts from plays
produced over the past year.
 
The Hudson Players production of "I Hate Hamlet" was awarded a Merit for
Ensemble Performance, while the show's cast and director enjoyed additional
recognition.  Director Claudia Lillibridge was given a Merit in Directing
award, Beth Alexander and Scott Schriner received Merit in Acting awards and
Bob Peyak received an Excellence in Acting award. 

Other theaters qualifying for State competition include:  Chagrin Valley
Little Theatre performing an entertaining and engaging scene from "Over the
Tavern" and Trumbull New Theatre with a captivating excerpt from "Cat on a
Hot Tin Roof."  The Galaxy Players' "Red, Hot & Cole," a tribute to Cole
Porter, was chosen as an alternate, should one of the qualifying theaters
not be able to attend.

Other OCTA competitors included:  Stage Left Theatre Company, Medina; Stow
Players, Stow; North Canton Playhouse, Canton; Galaxy Players, Wadsworth;
East Cleveland Playhouse, East Cleveland; Chagrin Valley Little Theatre,
Chagrin; Potter Players Community Playhouse, East Liverpool; Trumbull New
Theatre, Niles; Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, Chagrin Falls and Workshop
Players, Amherst.

The Hudson Players is one of Ohio's oldest community theaters.  They are
celebrating their 61st season and will be staging Hudson's "4th Annual
Community Variety Show," September 23 & 24; "Forever Plaid," October 28, 29,
November 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 18 & 19; "Barnum," February 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18,
19, 24 & 25 and "Deathtrap," May 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 & 20.  All performances
are at the Barlow Community Center on S. Oviatt St.  Reservations, season

OCTA is a service organization for more than 100 community theaters in Ohio
and adjacent areas of bordering states. Since its formation in 1953, it has
grown to be one of the largest and most successful organizations of its
kind. With its funding from the Ohio Arts Council, donations, dues and
proceeds from its many self supporting activities, OCTA provides a growing
list of services to its member theatres.
