CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE'S

STUDENT THEATRE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM PRESENTS EVENINGS OF FREE SUMMER THEATRE
IN CLEVELAND CITY PARKS!

CHALK CIRCLE

A classic tale for all ages!

August 4-13, 2005

Cleveland Public Theatre is proud to announce an outdoor production of CHALK
CIRCLE, an original performance, loosely based on Bertolt Brecht's classic
play The Caucasian Chalk Circle, performed by members of CPT's Student
Theatre Enrichment Program (STEP). The production will take place in a
variety of Cleveland City Parks from August 4 through 13, 2005. Admission is
free. The play is suitable for families.

STEP (Student Theatre Enrichment Program) engages inner-city teens in a
rigorous and fun theatrical journey, focusing on excellence in performance,
play creation, writing, and production. STEP serves a diverse range of
youth, including those who have had little previous exposure to theatre.
The majority of students come from economically challenged households. Now
in its eleventh year, STEP performances have gained a reputation of
excellence and the program has received multiple awards and recognitions
including those from the City of Cleveland, The President's Committee on the
Arts and Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Reviewing
STEP's 2004 production of Blood Wedding for Cool Cleveland Linda Eisenstein
writes, ".a program that blows away preconceptions of 'educational' or
'outreach' theatre.... The results are riveting and inspirational."

In CHALK CIRCLE, a child's fate hangs in the balance as his birth mother and
adopted mother battle for control of his future in a dynamic tale of love,
justice and courage in the face of adversity. STEP's production is a highly
visual adaptation geared for the outdoor environment, with stunning visual
imagery, powerful action, and haunting a cappella music. Co-Directors
Raymond Bobgan and Chris Seibert and the students of STEP have adapted the
script for this production.

"Every year the STEP program gets better and better," states Bobgan, CPT's
newly appointed Associate Artistic Director who serves as the Director of
Education and is the Co-Director of the production. "The work of the teens
improves and flourishes as they grow in experience over time. The discipline
and enthusiasm of our returning students creates a compelling and focused
environment that really challenges and draws out our new students. Chris
Seibert has brought this program to a high level of vibrancy and artistic
accomplishment. The results are clear, a group of highly professional,
incredibly talented, amazing performers doing their best work in a stunning
work of theatre."

This summer's STEP participants include students from all over the Cleveland
area.

Featured performers include: Joella R. Blount, Anthony Brooks, Vincent
Cleveland, Grace Czerniawski, Mariah Dukes, Adena E. Fancher, Gina Ferguson,
Ernestine Gantz, Yohanz Alee Lawrence, Joshua O'Neill, Quinton Perry, Megan

and Jellyeye Drum Theatre. At CPT, she performed in The Cult, a play which
she co-created. She has also appeared in CPT's productions of The Vagina
Monologues and Discordia. Chris is a graduate of Loyola University with a
B.A. in Theatre and Women's Studies.

Canada, Romania, Belgium, and Brazil. Specializing in voice work and
traditional songs, Holsinger creates much of the music for Wishhounds
productions. Holsinger received an M.F.A. in Acting from The University of
