Audition Reminder

The Geauga Lyric Theater Guild will hold auditions for their October
Production:

DARK OF THE MOON

This play has 23 roles, spanning the age ranges from adolescence to =
senior citizen. While not really considered a musical, country folk =
songs and revival style church hymns are incorporated throughout the =
show. Many roles requiresome singing. Auditioners can sing songs from =
the script, or bring their own songs and sheet music. An pianist will =
be present to accompany singers.

Feature roles include:

John -- a "witch boy" (young adult); intense, serious
Barbara Allen -- beautiful young mountain woman (about age 19); simple, =
uneducated; sings a folk song
Uncle Smelicue -- older male character who sings and plays guitar =20
Preacher Haggler -- revival style country preacher
Conjure Man -- mystical, old and broken
Conjure Woman -- old, craggy and a bit devious
Two Witches -- devious and seductive; must not be afraid of heights; a =
little dancing
Mrs. Allen -- Barbara's mother; sings
Mr. Allen -- Barbara's father
Floyd Allen -- about 15, plays guitar and sings
Marvin Hudgens -- Barbara's former boyfriend; jealous type; very strong
Miss Metcalf -- old maid; coy and flirty

And a wide variety of town folk, all of whom sing (either solo and/or =
chorus)

All roles call for an Applachian dialect, (script is written in =
dialect).

Two male guitar players are needed -- one teenager and one older man, =
both of whom can also sing and act.

Set in the Great Smoky Mountains during the early 20th century, Dark Of =
The Moon is the story of a young male witch, John, who wants to become =
human in order to marry Barbara Allen, a young mountain woman. The use =
of magical spells help this to happen, but with the usual "strings =
attached." Like The Crucible, which was written several years later, =
Dark Of The Moon plays on the extremes of closed cultures. John and =
Barbara get caught in the middle of this culture clash, with tragic =
results.

Directed by Martha Vail

Auditions will be held at the Geauga Theater on Monday and Tuesday, =
August
22 and 23 at 7pm.

Rehearsals will begin on Sept. 1st and will take place Monday's through =
Thursdays until the show opens on Oct. 7. The show will then run =
weekends in October.

For further infomation please contact Martha Vail at 440-564-9503.
