*Swedish Embassy praises Tyst's production of "The Pelican"*

Sweden's Cultural Counselor at the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, Mr.=20
Peter Wahlqvist, attended the premiere performance of *The Pelican*. Mr.=20
Wahlqvist was very impressed by the talent of the cast, the environment in=
=20
which the play was produced and by the amazing support of such a large=20
segment of the population. "In a talented cast, young Justin Tatum (as=20
Fredrick) particularly stood out."--*Swedish Embassy*

In its latest production, Tyst is excited to produce one of August=20
Strindberg's final and most evocative chamber plays, *The Pelican*. *The=20
Pelican* runs through August 28th at Bates Hall on the Hiram College campus=
.=20
Performances are Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8pm and Sundays at=
=20
2pm.=20

In this intriguing and ominous work, *The Pelican* introduces us to a famil=
y=20
of sleepwalkers, a family whose very existence has been built on deception.=
=20
As each family member begins to wake up, the myth of motherly sacrifice is=
=20
exposed and revenge is dealt out with ghastly consequences.=20

The cast includes actors from throughout northeastern Ohio. Hiram professor=
=20
Ellen Summers plays the cunning matriarch of the family. Justin Tatum (a=20
Shaker Heights resident and Ohio University alum) plays her neglected and=
=20
sickly son, Fredrick. Case student Kristie Erin Barnes plays her na=EFve an=
d=20
temperamental daughter, Gerda; and Gerda's unscrupulous husband, Axel, is=
=20
played by Ohio City resident and Case alum, Tom Kondilas. The cast is=20
rounded out by Akron resident Sue Antal, who plays the brazen housemaid,=20
Margaret. The production is directed by Cleveland resident, Adrienne Moon.=
=20

Strindberg is Sweden's master playwright, novelist, and short-story writer.=
=20
Combining psychology, naturalism and mysticism, his plays drew on the=20
problems of his marriage and his interest in self-analysis. Moon is the=20
Artistic Director at Dobama's Night Kitchen in Cleveland Heights.=20
