Emmy winning writer dishes out New TV Series
This Saturday August 27th, 2005 at 12:30 am on Dish Network Channel
216, ?Out of Darkness? begins its five week national run. The half hour
dramatic TV Series is a sexy, cop sci-fi drama from Prelude2Cinema and
Emmy winning writer Alex P. Michaels. While the show is targeted to
fans of ?Cops,? ?The X-files? and ?Law & Order,? the show has a lot of
unique elements.
?Out of Darkness? is about a female Spanish homicide detective named
Teresa Maria de los Angeles a.k.a. Angie (Ada Carolina Ortiz) who works
out of a fictional regional police depart in Cleveland, Ohio. She deals
with a partner, Detective Drew Avon (Joseph Primes), who doesn?t trust
her because Angie?s father is an alleged head of a drug cartel. Angie
also has two bosses: an overly religious Police Lieutenant (Marvin L.
Mallory) and an ?ethically challenged? Special Prosecutor (Alex P.
Michaels) who is very friendly with Philip Magnos (George V. Fiderio).
Magnos is a businessman who may be behind all the criminal activity in
the city. Yet with all that going on, the most disturbing element in
Angie?s life, is a mysterious shadow like creature that takes over her
body and literally devours criminals.
The TV Series is the first dramatic production in Cleveland, Ohio and
besides shining a light on the very talented actors and technicians;
the show brings businesses into the spotlight. Prelude2Cinema is
funding the series using ?branded entertainment,? a form of product
placement where sponsors are woven into the series. In episode one,
there are no commercials, but Cleveland sponsor Lucy?s Sweet Surrender
at 12516 Buckeye road shows up as the bakery where Angie and Drew hang
out. In the second episode Massimo da Milano at 1400 West 25th Street
shows up as the restaurant for a press conference from Mayor Carolyn
Rockwell (played by JaNiece Walters, who is also one of the show?s
producers).
Prelude2Cinema intends to keep the show ?commercial free,? but adds
there may be some spots for sponsors woven into the fictional Internet
News show the Cleveland Breaking News. ?When Natalie Morningstar
(Elizabeth Wenzel) says, we?ll be right back after a word from our
sponsors, we can show our real sponsors, ? says Alex. He believes that
with the invention of TiVO and Digital Video Recorders, the traditional
commercial will be phased out. ?We want to entertain people and by
making sponsors part of the show, we can involve the fans in the show
and make our sponsors happy as well. Most people leave the room when
commercials come on and sometimes commercials can go on for so long,
you forget what you are watching.?
?Out of Darkness? has a website at
http://www.prelude2cinema.com/dark.htm which features a Yahoo group
with ?Oddies,? which is what the fans of the show call themselves.
Prelude2Cinema has also had a few fan parties at another sponsors
place, the Velvet Dog at 1280 West 6th street.
Alex admits the show is a lot of work, but he is hoping it can bring a
lot of positive things to Cleveland. He also believes its important to
keep the fans happy. ?Having fans for a TV Series that hasn?t
officially premiered is a good sign. Already one of the Oddies from
Canada has asked, can he get the show up there. Well, not yet I told
him, but we?re working on it.?
