Bill Radawec - ( A Study )
CLEVELAND, Ohio (August 27th, 2005)- New paintings and sculptures by
Cleveland based artist, Bill Radawec, will be on display at raw & co gallery
located on 1009 Kenilworth Avenue in Tremont from September 9th, 2005
through October 16th, 2005.
Bill Radawec's exhibition of recent work presents an installation of new
sculptures and paintings. The sculptures, small in size, display private
scenes forcing the viewer to become both a voyeur and the story teller. The
imagery does not have a set narrative - stories are to be composed by the
viewer and can evoke flagrant scenarios or be subtly poetic. Radawec's work
is full of humor, the absurd, and the unexpected, with themes derived from
day-dreaming and escapism. The scenarios take place in the basement of his
childhood home, a place he often revisits in his art. The maquette size
sculptures evolved from building small architectural models for future art
exhibitions. By placing HO-scale model figures to indicate scale, Radawec
started to create open-ended playful scenarios.
His recent paintings, titled "A Clean Slate", will be displayed on a wall
painted to replicate a wall in his childhood basement, which also serves as
his studio. The wall re-examines the intent of his small sculptures while
the paintings, uniform in size and painted monochromatic chalkboard black,
pay homage to Joseph Beuys, Cy Twombly and Gary Simmons as well as reference
changes in his personal life.
Radawec graduated from the Baldwin-Wallace College, in 1974 and has since
exhibited his work throughout the US. He has also curated numerous shows in
Los Angeles and around the country.
The opening reception will be held on September 9th, 2005 from 6-10 PM.
