Urinetown The Musical

Receives Rave Reviews from Audiences and Critics!

Only 2 Weekends Left ~ Closes October 9th

=20

This wild and happy mix of biting satire and loving parody has been
enthusiastically received by both audience members and critics alike
since opening on September 16th. Here's what people are saying about
Urinetown The Musical:

=20

"The Beck's Urinetown is about as much fun as you can have in a dark
roomful of strangers without getting banished to
you-know-where...Urinetown captures us in its relentless headlights."

~Tony Brown, The Plain Dealer

"Urine for some hilarious theater..."

~Julie E. Washington, On Stage, The Plain Dealer

"Beck Center is currently giving the 2005-06 campaign the most
combustible kickoff in years with its smoking premier of "Urinetown: The
Musical". In fact, by the time the theatrical party winds down in June,
this rudely titled dalliance, about the vicissitudes of making Number
One, could conceivably still rate as production Number One... The
company of 16 is uniformly impeccable...Waste not a moment more reading
about how good this show is. What you want to do is get on the horn and
make reservations to relieve yourself-of your cares, that is."

~James Damico, The Cleveland Free Times

"Director Scott Spence has crafted a production as tight as a clenched
urethra, every scene clicking with admirable precision... And if there
were an award for the best performance by a chorus, the poor folk in
this production would be leading candidates. The town peons perform
flawlessly, whether they're dancing the full-bladder jig or singing the
comically uplifting "Run, Freedom, Run!" ...Urine for a treat with this
show!"

~Christine Howey, Scene Magazine

=20

"Beck's' production is outstanding! I enjoyed this creation even more
than the New York or recent Cleveland Playhouse Square offering. Scott
Spence pulls out all the stops to completely capture the necessary farce
without losing the meaning and controls the tendency to go overboard
with shticks... The cast is excellent...not a weak link in the
chain...CAPSULE JUDGEMENT: Beck Center has undertaken a difficult task
in choosing to produce Urinetown. They not only succeed, but are flush
with success! This is THE musical to see."

~Roy Berko, The Times Newspapers

"This show is excellent, and the performances are outstanding. You won't
see as good without leaving town, and maybe not then...this show is a
good time... The musicians are clearly having easily as much fun as the
actors...the cast is energetic, enthused, in time and on key. You may
have missed the champagne reception after the standing ovation on
opening night, but the show runs through October 9, 2005. "

~Marcus Bales, Cool Cleveland

"This is one of Beck's best produced shows in years, with director Scott
Spence and especially choreographer Martin Cespedes exceeding the
acclaimed Broadway production in cleverness-they get every funny moment,
then pile on more...it's smart, fresh, and sassy with just enough
serious underpinnings to warrant a lively post-play conversation after
the laughs are done...Anyone who loves musicals-and even those who
generally loathe them-will find something to enjoy in this."

~Linda Eisenstein, Cool Cleveland

"Cutting-edge musical is a blast at Beck...Don't let an off-putting
title like Urinetown keep you from seeing one of the hippest, freshest
musicals to re-invigorate the stage...The production, directed by Scott
Spence, delivers on all fronts, balancing loopy camp with gentle satire
that is the hallmark of this cutting-edge musical. What a great cast,
too, who seem to be enjoying themselves as much as the audience... There
are so many good things to say about this production...This may not be a
happy musical, as Lockstock cautions, but it sure is one of the best in
the canon that turns absurdity into a totally original work of art.
Don't miss it."

~Fran Heller, Cleveland Jewish News

=20

"Wow!!! What a fantastic, impeccable performance!!! You will LOVE this
show! For anyone who wants a totally delightful, different, fun "worth
every penny of the ticket price" evening, get a group together and go
enjoy this three-time Broadway Tony Award winner for Best Score, Best
Book of a Musical and Best Direction performed to sublime perfection by
some of Cleveland's finest local talent."
