After over a decade of making sounds together, vocalist Jane LeCroy and
multi-instrumentalist Tom Abbs bring the musical experience of
"Transmitting" to the mid-west.  Combining avant-jazz, spoken word,
hip-hop and a carefully crafted song style, this group will take you on
a journey through language and sound. The famed New York City based duo
is heading out to spread their songs and words to eight cites from
October 5th thru the 14th including Syracuse NY (Wed. Oct. 5th),
Cleveland OH (Thurs. Oct 6th), Indianapolis IN (Fri. Oct 7th), Detroit
MI (Sat. Oct 8th), Chicago IL (Sun . Oct 9th), Cincinnati OH (Mon Oct
10th), Columbus OH (Tues. Oct 11th), Pittsburgh PA (Wed. Oct 12th) and
finally back to NYC on the 14th.=20

accurate critic eat their words. This imaginative duo from NYC features
vocalist Jane LeCroy against the backdrop of Tom Abbs' upright bass,
didjeridoo, cello and percussion. Tom's keen sense of improvisation
propels Jane through a vast landscape of words, songs and sound. Jane

TRANSMITTING has released three albums. "Cosmic Energy via Tongues and
Tones" 1999, "Live at the Den of Cin" featuring drummer Chad Taylor 2000
and "From the Inside" 2002. The group has toured extensively throughout
the South and Mid-Atlantic states. Transmitting has held residencies at
The Bowery Poetry Club, Pianos, The Internet Caf=E9 and the Liberty
Science Center. The duo has collaborated over the years with the likes
of beatboxers Kid Lucky, bassist Peter Kowald, reed player Daniel
Carter, cellist Madigan Shive, percussionist Chad Taylor and many widely
recognized poets & writers such as Ra Heatly from ApSci,   Eileen Miles,
Nomy Lamm, Nicole Heffner and many more. =20

   One of TRANSMITTING=92s signature aspects is that half their set is
improvised and incorporates questions and words from the audience.  The
improvisation is worked seamlessly into their carefully crafted songs.
The project lends itself to working with guests because there is so much
spontaneity in the set.  Often the duo becomes a trio featuring an

          Jane LeCroy started singing her poetry a capella in 1993.  She
was part of the emo-core punk band Vitapup, was the front-woman of the
rock band Spook Engine, ('95-'98) and the multi-media-electronica band
Somnaut ('96-2000). In 1999 and 2000 Jane LeCroy was part of the famous
women poets, Sister Spit.   Currently she performs solo and with
TRANSMITTING.  Jane LeCroy is a versatile performer and has crossed all
kinds of music boundaries, collaborating with artists that range from
punk, alternative rock, hip-hop and avant-garde Jazz, even a circus!
Some artist she's collaborated with are Bonfire Madigan, Bitch & Animal,
John S. Hall, Bradford Reed, Andy Bemky, Erik Lawrence, Napoleon Maddox,
Taylor Mcferrin, Kid Lucky and Baba Israel.

          Jane LeCroy has performed at the Michigan Womyn's Music
Festival, has featured at the St. Marks Poetry Project, LaMaMa
performance art series, Charlie Anders Writers With Drinks series, and
in Voices Around The Square in Union Square.  She held performance
residencies at the Liberty Science Center, and currently at The Bowery
Poetry Club in NYC. Jane LeCroy teaches poetry at Eugene Lang College
and to elementary students in NYC public schools. She's published many
books of poetry, and records.   Her work is part of the Smithsonian and
archived in the Yale collection and the Brooklyn Museum.  Jane LeCroy
has performed in almost every state of the USA.=20

        Multi-instrumentalist Tom Abbs has been performing and recording
in a variety of contexts (classical, rock, jazz, and improvised musics)
for the past 20 years. A Seattle native, Tom relocated to New York in
1991 where he studied with such masters as Reggie Workman, Buster
Williams, Joe Chambers, Junior Mance, Chico Hamilton and Arthur Taylor.
In the past decade Tom has developed a driving percussive style on the
bass that encompasses the deep emotion and grit of Charles Mingus and
Jimmy Garrison while showing the dexterity and inventiveness of Scott La
Faro. His fluid tuba style has shed many of the instrument's sluggish
connotations and transformed it into a soaring solo and sharply
percussive groove machine. Equally comfortable in "free" and "inside"
settings, Abbs' versatility and depth as a player has kept him busy
backing up the likes of Lawrence "Butch" Morris, Charles Gayle, Daniel
Carter, Steve Swell, Roy Campbell Jr., Sabir Mateen, Jemeel Moondoc,
Assif Tahar, Borah Bergman, Billy Bang, Andrew Lamb, Warren Smith and
many others.=20
        Tom is currently a member of The Andrew Lamb Trio (CIMP, Freedom
Arts), Geoff Mann's Eternal Buzz Brass Band , the collective
experimental trio, Triptych Myth with Cooper-Moore and Chad Taylor
(Hopscotch Records, AUM Fidelity) and is leading his own group,
Frequency Response (CIMP Records, 482 Music). Tom tours with his solo
multi-media project Multifarious annually and has released one DVD
"Prehension Suite" in collaboration with NY painter M.P. Landis (Jump

        Napoleon Maddox aka MC NapoleonSolo is a multi-talented modern
artist. He is a skilled human beat-box artist, emcee, writer, producer,
performance poet, actor, singer and improviser.   Napoleon stays fresh
with a classic sense of style by always crafting his own with respect to
the past, present and future.   Loves Hip-hop pioneers such as Doug E
Fresh, Chuck D and Rakim yet seems to challenge himself to someday hold
ranks with Paul Robeson, Nina Simone and Leon Thomas. If these are his
true ambitions he is well on his way. Maddox keeps a regular performance
schedule, writes continual and prolifically, creates new settings for
himself, other artists and applies cross genre music theory that is
naturally soulful and honest. The world is becoming familiar with this
gem through several outlets. His improvising hip-hop group, ISWHAT?! Has
recorded with *Hamid Drake (who has worked with Herbie Hancock & Bill
Laswell) DJ Spinna, Roy Campbell Jr., DJ Spooky, John Doe and The Animal
Crackers. ISWHAT?! has performed live shows with KRS ONE, Saul Williams,
DJ Spinna, Steve Swell, The Roots, Joe Fonda, Mocean Worker, DJ Spooky,
