Dear NEO Performing and Visual Arts Community,

=20

On Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Center will host Live Homosexual Acts: A Coming =
Out
Day Rally, 4-6pm on Public Square. We would love it if artists such as
yourselves would join us on the square to rehearse lines for an upcoming
show, have a meeting, work on a drawing or painting, take photos, etc =
for
the duration of the event. We are inviting other groups of people to
participate in a similar manner (holding a staff meeting, eating a =
snack,
and so on).=20

=20

Essentially, we want as many folks to join us on the Square as possible.
Read below for futher information, or contact me if you have any =
questions.
Information is also posted here: http://www.lgcsc.org/Enews/EA100505.htm

Community members to come out of the closet
at public event on Oct. 11

Live Homosexual Acts: A Coming Out Day Rally, to be held on National =
Coming
Out Day, Tuesday, Oct. 11,=20
4-6pm at Public Square. A short program, featuring Clevelanders=20
coming out publicly, will begin at 4:30pm.=20

CLEVELAND - The Lesbian/Gay Community Center of Greater Cleveland will =
give
community members the chance to come out of the closet at a special =
rally on
National Coming Out Day, Tuesday, Oct. 11, 4-6pm at Public Square, =
downtown.

Billing the event as "Live Homosexual Acts," organizers hope to promote
coming out as an important political and social action, while also
demonstrating the diversity of the gay community.

=20

"The anti-gay industry has sensationalized all aspects of our lives and
we're facing more attacks from them this year," Center Executive =
Director
Sue Doerfer said. "When we come out, we not only put a face on the gay
community, we challenge stereotypes as well."

=20

For the duration of the event, participants will commit a "live =
homosexual
act," by coming out to their employer, co-workers, family members or
children. Public Square will be roped off so that community members can =
also
come out simply by spending time on the square, by working on their =
laptop,
playing with their kids, talking on the phone, reading a book, doing
homework, knitting, etc.

"Anti-gay groups seek to de-humanize us, but coming out combats that,"
Doerfer said. "It's also important to note that coming out is a lifelong
process; there are always people for us to come out to - new neighbors, =
new
co-workers and others. The more people we come out to, the more hearts =
and
minds we change."

National Coming Day is held annually on October 11 to commemorate the =
first
March on Washington by LGBT people in 1987. The first National Coming =
Out
Day was held in 1988.
