Press Release
Chagrin Valley Little Theatre

At The River Street Playhouse

Presents Three Tall Women

October 10, 2005:=20

Albee's best plays have always walked a line between heightened realism =
and dark comedy. Even his most surreal works are populated with =
characters who wouldn't seem out of place in real life. This 1994 =
Pulitzer Prize winner runs true to form. It begins as a naturalistic =
conversation among three women (identified as A, B, and C) from =
successive generations who meet in a hospital room. Each is undergoing a =
change from one life phase to another, and each faces her travails and =
disappointments with lots of Albee's trademark bitter wit.=20

In the second act, however, the three women become representatives of =
the same person at different ages (26, 52, late 80s), and their =
bickering talk becomes a touching internal discussion about life, love, =
and the inevitability of loss. "Not since Beckett's brooding meditation =
Krapp's Last Tape has a playwright dealt so movingly with the subject of =
disappointment, aging, and death". Jack Helbig.

Director Bob Kmiecik has assembled an outstanding cast. One such cast =
member is Bernice Bolek (A).
This is the third time around for Bernice in Edward Albee's play. In =
2000,she played "B" at Beck Center; three years later she took on "A" =
for Ensemble Theatre, a role for which she won the SCENE'S " best =
actress" award.
Now,she embarks on a journey finding new nuances in a role that is rich =
and powerful. She carries with her more than 50 years of stage =
experience in New York and in New England, specifically five 30-week =
seasons with The Red Barn Theatre in Massachusetts.

Greater Clevelanders may remember her as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over =
the Cuckoo's Nest and Amanda Prynne in Private Lives, both produced at =
the Beck Center. Her most recent role was Mrs.Carrie Watts in Horton =
Foote's A Trip to Bountiful produced by Ensemble Theatre at The =
Cleveland Playhouse.

She has also worked at Red Hen Productions,Clague Playhouse,Cleveland =
Public Theatre and Berea Summer Theatre, and if you did not blink =
attending Great Lakes Theatre Festival's Peter Pan, you may have seen =
her as one of the women outlaws.
