Red dramatizes the commanding and controlling presence of Gustav Mahler by
illuminating the musical and emotional aspects of one of music's most
fascinating relationships. Through readings of Alma's diary excerpts and her
songs, and a semi-staged theatrical production of Gustav's Songs of a
Wayfarer, Red ventures into Mahler's Shadow; a relationship that caused Alma
to sacrifice her music for love.
