Even if you hate Shakespeare; nay, especially if you hate Shakespeare, =
get thyself to Aurora Community Theater for I Hate Hamlet, on stage =
through November 19.

Casting Horak ( Kevin Horak) as Barrymore is a stroke of genius. =20

Baker (Brad Baker, as Andrew) has never played a Shakespearean role =
either. He insists he auditioned for I Hate Hamlet, partly because he =
really does hate Hamlet.

To prepare for a literal duel with fate, both men spent some two months =
with a bona-fide fencing master.

The on-stage fight is carried out into the ACT aisles, and the swords =
are real.

An ACT newcomer, Buechler ( Melanie Buechler, as Deirdre) is no stage =
rookie. Having honed her craft on the New York floorboards, she imbues =
Deirdre with a spirit audiences admire, a spirit we remember having left =
behind somewhere; sometime.

Grumney (Phyllis Grumney, as Lillian) said she drew her inspiration for =
Lillian from Auroran Eva Holmes, who lent Grumney her German accent and =
an evening gown that will leave audiences gasping.

Grumney and Horak dance, both proving that they are as graceful on their =
toes as they are witty with their tongues.

Bakst (Gary Bakst, as Gary) adopts an unforgettable surfer-dude accent =
as he plays bad-angel to Barrymore's pleading.

If there is an antagonist in I Hate Hamlet, Bakst is it, yet audiences =
can't help but love him, cultural cavity though he is. On stage that =
is.

Whether leading a s=E9ance or falling for the most unlikely of =
love-interests, White (Chris White, as Felicia) is unfailingly funny in =
her phoniness, the nightmare one fears of a realtor or a psychic. White =
makes us love Felicia, accepting that some people are just like that, =
and are worthy, anyway.

Arbuckle (Don Arbuckle) and company transform the ACT stage to the =
living room of a period-furnished New York townhouse. No detail is =
overlooked.

Area audiences should be proud to support this performance, and can by =
calling the ACT ticket office at 330-562-1818
