Musical Stage Director/Opera Educator-This dynamic individual will direct a=20
highly innovative, original, research-based musical theatre production durin=
g a=20
summer season, with thirty days of rehearsal (three hours a day) and three=20
days to load-in and tech. The best candidate will have a working knowledge o=
f=20
directing both musical theatre and opera, because he/she will not only have=20=
the=20
opportunity to stage the musical for the Bay View season, but also teach an=20
opera performance workshop for the conservatory students who spend the summe=
r at=20
the Bay View Music Festival studying and performing. The 2006 musical opens=20
July 27, but preparation for the production starts earlier; direct work with=
=20
the artistic staff begins in April and needs to be completed before the seas=
on=20
starts in mid-June. A candidate must be versatile and have good=20
challenge-solving skills, working well in a fast paced environment. A practi=
cal understanding=20
of the budgetary and technical aspects of theatre production is highly=20
desired. The ability to work well with a professional artistic, music, and=20
production staff--as well as interns, preprofessional performers, and commun=
ity-based=20
actors, is a must.  Knowledge=20
of opera and =E2=80=9Ccross over=E2=80=9D musical theatre repertoire is high=
ly desired,=20
because this individual will collaborate with the Director of Theatre Arts,=20=
voice=20
faculty, and maestros to pick a future season that can be cast from a group=20=
of=20
15 classically trained singers (with additional cast members coming from the=
=20
community). The Musical Stage Director also works with the Opera Stage=20
Director to cast the opera and the musical from these 15 student artists. Be=
