There is still one more night to audition for the Hudson Players production
of Barnum-

Auditions Monday Night, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Barlow Community Center in
Hudson.

A full breakdown of all the great parts is listed below. Performances will
be held Feb 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 19*, 24 & 25

Barnum is a high energy jazzy musical from 1980. With Music by Cy Colman,
Lyrics by Michael Stewart and Book by Mark Bramble, Barnum is full of
lights, movement, dance, and magic. In the words of the lead character in
the opening of the show, "Tonight, on this stage, you are going to see --
bar none -- every sight, wonder, and miracle that name stands for!".

Barnum has need for performers who can juggle, spin a plate on a stick, do a
hand stand, tumble, spin a baton, be a clown, and almost any other specialty
associated with a circus or carnival. Barnum is a show in which the ensemble
is involved in many numbers and scenes throughout the show.  Chorus numbers
include "One Brick At A Time," "Come Follow the Band," "Black & White,"

The Cast.

P.T. Barnum - (The prince of Humbug) P.T. Barnum was the greatest showman in
American History, the true practitioner of the art of Humbug. Since this
play covers the years 1835 to 1880, Barnum may be cast for men from their
20's to their 50's. Various songs and solos.

Chairy Barnum - P.T. Barnum's very down to earth wife. (she is the one who
knows how to get things done and see through all of his marital humbugs -
but is not above pulling a few of her own). This part may be cast for a
woman in her 20's to 50's. Various Songs and Solos.

The Ringmaster - A sort of Circus master of ceremonies who narrates the show
as if it were a circus. Actor of any age. (May be same actor who plays James
A. Bailey.

James A. Bailey-James Bailey (as in "The Barnum and Bailey Circus"). A man
of any age. Sings "Come Follow the Band" and others.

Jenny Lind - The Swedish Nightingale. A young (20 - 40's) pretty soprano
opera singer(Barnum's one legitimate and class act) who has an eye for
Barnum. (also part of ensemble). Sings: "Love Makes Such Fools of Us All"

Joice Heth - "The oldest woman alive". This is Barnum's first act, a woman
reported to be 160 years old (she undoubtedly wasn't) who Barnum passed off
as George Washington's nursemaid (she wasn't) is usually played by a young
Black woman in her 20's or 30's. This part will be open to any woman who can
sing and dance the part. Sings: "Thank God I'm Old", also usually doubles as
the blues singer.

Tom Thumb - "The smallest man in the world". Although the real Tom Thumb was
only 25 inches tall, the play is written for a normal sized young man. Open
to any who fit the part. Sings "Bigger Isn't Better".

Blues Singer - Sings the lead in a jazzy blues song called "Black and
White". May be same actress as Joice Heth or cast separately.

Julius Goldschimdt - Jenny Lind's manager. An acting part (plus ensemble)
for a man of any age.

Amos Scudder - Barnum's partner in the American Museum. An acting part (plus
ensemble) for a man of any age.

Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Stratton - Tom Thumb's Father and Mother. An acting
part (plus ensemble) for a man and woman old enough to have a grown son.

Chester Lyman - Joice Heth's Manager. A small acting part (plus ensemble)
for a man of any age.

Wilton - Barnum's assistant on the Jenny Lind tour (plus ensemble). Man of
any age.

Egar Templeton and Humbert Morrissey - Political Party Bosses (plus
ensemble). Middle age and up
