The Pastoral Symphony, written by Bodwins Peter Manos, was previously
presented as a workshop production at the Lamb's Theatre in New York and was
awarded a Pilgrim Excellence in the Arts grant. This reading represents its
local premiere.
The Gide story, on which it is based, was written in 1919. Awarding André
Gide (1869-1951), the Nobel Prize for literature in 1947, the Academy noted
from the beginning of his career he put himself in the first rank of the
sowers of spiritual anxiety
Gide has been a man of contrasts
an
uninterrupted dialogue in which faith constantly struggles against doubt,
asceticism against the love of life, discipline against the need for
freedom.
The cast features Magdalyn Donnelly, Tom Cullinan, Tim Keo, Sandra Manos*
and Peter Manos.*
