The Cleveland Theater Collective continues STAGES (Strategic Theater Agenda=20

RE: Nurturing the Artistic Environment: A Discussion with Theater=20
Artists
 Cleveland Theater Collective Planning Session
 November 21, 2005
=20
I am pleased to have been asked to be the discussion leader for this session=
.=20
 So that we can have a fruitful conversation, I am posing several questions=20
as an agenda. I would appreciate it if you could consider these questions=20
before we meet and be prepared to share your thoughts. I hope, of course, t=
hat if=20
there are questions and issues not presented here, that you will bring them=20
and add them to the agenda. I won=E2=80=99t presume to know all the concern=
s, issues=20
and opportunities in the environment for individual theater artists.
=20
Disclaimer
Please know that this conversation is for the benefit of CTC as your service=
=20
organization. While I am certainly interested in the subject and the work=20
that CTC is doing on your behalf, you should not assume that the Cleveland=20
Foundation is making any commitment to funding as an outcome of my participa=
tion as=20
discussion leader for CTC.
=20
I look forward to our discussion.
=20
Discussion Questions
=20
Have you had any experiences with theater service organizations in other=20
cities? What were the good, bad and ugly of these experiences?
=20
What do you find most rewarding about working in Cleveland=E2=80=99s theater=
=20
environment?
=20
What is most frustrating?
=20
What sort of services might you find useful as a theater artist?
Professional development as an actor, designer, stage manager, director,=20
administrator, playwright, etc? For example, master classes, critiques, bus=
iness=20
planning,, voice training, creative writing support, etc.?
Livelihood needs: Health insurance, live-work space, business loans, etc.
Self promotion support: head shots, audition prep, video taping, resume=20
writing, showcases, etc.
=20
What are the different needs for individual artists with solo careers vs. th=
e=20
individual within a theater organization, if any? Is this something worth=20
exploring?
=20
So help me understand the difference between theater and theatre. Everyone=20
seems to be going British in recent years.
