Premieres at Karamu House on November 9


Dramatic Play by Local Celeb Runs through November 20
The Family Line, a play written by The Honorable Peter Lawson Jones, will
preview on Wednesday, November 9 at 7:30 pm and have its Cleveland premier,
Thursday, November 10 at the Jelliffe Theatre of Karamu House at 8 p.m.  The
full-length drama will run Wednesdays through Sundays, November 9-12, and
November 16 –19 at 8 p.m.; Sundays November 13th and 20th at 3:00 p.m.
Directed by Desmond Jones, The Family Line chronicles the life of a once
promising hoop star, Brad Roberts, who dreamed of becoming a professional
basketball star.  With his dreams no longer attainable, Brad seeks personal
redemption through his son.  His life unfolds as his lifelong friend, Walter
Randall, struggles to climb the corporate ladder; Belinda Davis, a young
woman from the rural South, simply desires a better life; and Sheila, Brad's
wife, asks only for love and support.  Find out if their intertwining lives
are fulfilled. Adult language and situations.

The play’s writer, the Honorable Peter Lawson Jones, is currently a
Commissioner on the Board of Cuyahoga County Commissioners. Jones is a
partner with the law firm of Roetzel & Andress. He is the former Vice Mayor
and former councilman for the City of Shaker Heights. He was the first
African-American ever nominated to run for Lieutenant Governor in the
history of the State of Ohio. In addition, Jones previously served as
Special Counsel for the Ohio Attorney General and Associate Bar Examiner for
the Supreme Court of Ohio.

The Family Line has been successfully produced at both Harvard and Ohio
Universities and locally received a staged reading at the East Cleveland
Community Theatre.

Desmond "Storm, E" Jones, director of The Family Line, directed the stage
reading of The Family Line at the 14th Annual R. Joyce Whitley Arenafest
Festival of Plays in April 2005.  Desmond Jones started his acting career at
the age of seven in church doing plays and oratorical contests.  Jones feels
blessed to have grown into an award winning spoken word artist and actor.
He has published and authored Storm E Weather and Jones'n. He is the winner
of Def Poetry Jam.com and a five-time winner of Amateur Night on "It's
Showtime at the Apollo."  Storm E was awarded Best Male Lead Actor during
the 2001-2002 season portraying Tony T in Riff Raff by Laurence Fishburne at
Karamu House.  He appeared as Rawl Cheek in No Nigger, No Jews, No Dogs by
John Henry Redwood.  Most recently, he has appeared as Jiggy Gardner in
Johnnie Taylor is Gone by Gregory Carr.
