RE: BLACK NATIVITY & Holiday Events

“O Come all Yee Faithful” to the 20th years run of Karamu Performing Arts
Theatre holiday favorite, Black Nativity written by Karamu Alumni, Langston
Hughes, December 9 thru December 30, 2005, in the Jelliffe Theatre. Black
Nativity continues to dazzle audiences of all ages with its rousing gospel
music, superbly performed dance numbers, brilliant costumes and the majesty
of Langston Hughes’ poetry. This year’s production is directed and
choreographed by Cleveland native Terence M. Greene, instructor at The
Cleveland School of Performing Arts. Terence Greene was a member of The
Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and has choreographed for some of the top
dance companies in the country. He is Artistic Director for Foluke’.
Terence’s brings to the table his many years of dance training, performance
and teaching plus his performance experience in the role of Joseph.
Returning again this year to lead the musical endeavors is Clifton D.
Beasley who has skillfully blended the multi-talents of some of Cleveland’s
finest gospel singers and performers to bring the nativity story to life.
The roles of “Mary and Joseph” are gracefully danced by Kathleen Turner and
Michael Medcalf principles of The Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre.
Student dancers from the Cleveland School of Arts complement the performance
as angels, shepherds and ushers. This combination of seasoned vocalist, new
talented soloist, experienced and youthful dancers make this season’s
production another must see for The Greater Cleveland and surrounding areas.
For a feel good, family friendly production, put Black Nativity at the top
of your lists of things to do this holiday season. Regular performance times
for Black Nativity are 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays and 3:00
p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $20, $25 and $30.00
