HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WVIZ/PBS PROGRAM APPLAUSE FOR MONTH OF DECEMBER=20

Emmy Award-winning ideastreamsm production focuses on Northeast Ohio
arts and cultural activity=20

APPLAUSE, the Emmy Award-winning production of WVIZ/PBS ideastreamsm
hosted by Dee Perry spotlights Northeast Ohio's rich arts and cultural
scene. This month, APPLAUSE talks with Akron Beacon Journal syndicated
cartoonist Chip Bok, tours the innovative Hyacinth Lofts, presents the
sounds of the Cleveland Public Library Christmas Choir, meets up with
comedian John Henton during his hometown visit, and gets ready for the
New Year and a performance by the Cleveland Pops Orchestra.

Now in its eighth season, APPLAUSE airs on WVIZ/PBS ideastream Thursdays
at 7:30 pm.=20

APPLAUSE  will look back at some of Cleveland's most forward-thinking
architectural design in the Art Deco style. The program also features an
interview with award-winning Akron Beacon Journal syndicated cartoonist
Chip Bok. Gary Bukovnik has no gardening skills, but his lack of a green
thumb never affected his paintbrush. Dee interviews Bukovnik, discussing
his latest collection of watercolor bouquets on view at the Bonfoey

Tonight's program features a visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art and a
talk with deputy director of exhibitions Charles Venable about the
special exhibition focusing on the Arts & Crafts movement. Then,
Hyacinth Lofts is a unique development project that unites production
studio and living space for Cleveland's video and film community in the
dynamic St. Hyacinth neighborhood. Plus, between the 1920s and 1960s,
before there were shopping malls, small independent shops and large
department stores provided everything consumers needed. APPLAUSE takes
viewers back in time with an excerpt from the WVIZ/PBS special "Akron

The Cleveland Public Library Christmas Choir, led by executive director
Andrew Venable, stops by the WVIZ/PBS studios to perform holiday
favorites. Viewers also enjoy a ride back in time as Applause presents
an excerpt from the WVIZ/PBS special "The Way We Shopped," looking at
downtown shopping memories and traditions.=20

Dee Perry has a candid conversation with comedian, John Henton, as he
returns to his hometown. Dee and Henton meet in Forrest Hills Park,
where the comedian spent much of his childhood while growing up in East
Cleveland.  Henton talks about his efforts to help build the park,
revealing that, despite making a living in Los Angeles, his heart is
still in Cleveland.=20

            Members of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra visit the WVIZ/PBS
studios for a performance of seasonal tunes, and Dee talks with
orchestra director Carl Topilow about the group's New Year's Eve concert
and the 2006 season.
