Karamu's production of "Before It Hits Home" opens March 10-April 9, =
2006. A fifteen minute scene from the play was given a standing ovation =
at AIDS Task Force for World AIDS Day this past Friday, December 2 at 12 =
noon. There will be coverage on this Spring production in the March =
issue of Cleveland Magazine.=20

The Cast from the excerpt

Marvin Hayes as Bailey, the father (Mr. Hayes is a Karamu vet, latest =
production was "Johnnie Taylor is Gone")=20

Lelund Durond Thompson as Wendal, (Mr. Thompson is in Case Western =
Reserve University's Masters Program and will be understudy in Cleveland =
Playhouse's "A Street Car Named Desire")

E.B. Smith as Junior, the younger brother (Mr. Smith is a member Great =
Lakes Theatre Festival)

Denzel Reese as Dwayne, Wendal's son (Mr. Reese is a student at =
Cleveland School of the Arts)

BEFORE IT HITS HOME follows the last few months in the life of jazz =
musician Wendal Bailey, an African-American bisexual male. Examined in =
this drama are Wendal's two worlds; one which revolves around his =
lovers, the other based in the home of his extended family - his mother, =
father, "aunt", brother and 12-year-old son. After nearly dying of AIDS, =
Wendal comes home to regain his strength and find comfort, but a festive =
evening celebrating his return turns into a disaster. Shortly after this =
debacle, the only support and love he finds as he lies in his death- bed =
comes from an unexpected source - his previously stern, disapproving and =
homophobic father. Directed by Ray Allmond
