National Press Photographer's Association
Mission Statement
The National Press Photographers Association is dedicated to the advancemen=
t of photojournalism, its creation, editing and distribution, in all news me=
dia. NPPA encourages photojournalists to reflect high standards of quality i=
n their professional performance and in their personal code of ethics. NPPA =
vigorously promotes freedom of the press in all its forms. To this end, NPPA=
provides continuing educational programs and fraternalism without bias, as =
we support and acknowledge the best the profession has to offer.
Our members include still and television photographers, editors, students a=
nd representatives of businesses that serve the photojournalism industry. As=
of the Fall of 2003, NPPA had over 8,000 paid professional members, about 1=
,500 paid student members, and nearly 500 life members--bringing the total m=
embership to just over 10,000.
History
The National Press Photographers Association was fou=
nded in 1946. In the first issue of National Press Photographer (publ=
ished in Boston, Mass. in April 1946), an editorial on the front page procla=
imed, "With this issue is born a voice, one that has been mute much too=
long."
t the early history of t=
he NPPA? Purchase a copy of A Voice is Born: The Founding and Early Years=
of the National Press Photographers
"We're no longer going to permit ourselves t=
o be relegated to the position of unwelcome, but necessary, stepchildren of =
the Fourth Estate. We've got a voice, finally, and we're going to make use o=
f it. No false modesty. No muffling of that voice under a barrel. We're goin=
g to yell so loud -- when the occasion demands, and not just for the fun of =
hearing ourselves shout -- that those in this country who have been injuring=
us with scant courtesy will begin to realize that here is a new force to be=
reckoned with."
Membership in NPPA is open to professional news phot=
ographers and all others whose occupation has a direct professional relation=
ship with photojournalism. All members receive a monthly copy of News Pho=
tographer magazine, The Best of Photojournalism Yearbook and 2 Vo=
lume Television Winners' DVD, regional publications, access to the Job Infor=
mation Bank, discounts on all NPPA programs and eligibility to enter all NPP=
A contests.
In the early years, the struggles included trying to get cameras allowed in=
to the courtrooms and to improve government/media relations. And, in fact, m=
any of the programs that NPPA has today including the "job bureau"=
as it was then called, an insurance program, "The Complete Book of Pre=
ss Photography" and programs for "newsreel cameramen" had the=
ir start back in the late 1940s.
But they've grown as have many of NPPA's other programs. Today, NPPA hosts =
five national workshops of various types on everything from general photogra=
phy and motivation to television photography and technology. Today, NPPA has=
a Job Information Bank that posts several job openings every week. Today, N=
PPA has an e-commerce store, an AV Library and publishes materials that are =
in demand by researchers, students, instructors and photojournalists all ove=
r the world.

From R&H Theatricals Website:
It seems especially fitting that the first rock opera, created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent ??"60s, should have at its center a social and political rebel. Jesus??" meteor-like rise in renown provides, as the title suggests, a parallel to contemporary celebrity worship. As His radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ??"s final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.
Originally produced on Broadway by Robert Stigwood, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR opened on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on

Book by James Lapine
Directed by Martin Friedman
Musical Direction by Larry Goodpaster

Sunday, January, 15 2006 1:00pm till 4:00pm
NO ROLES ARE PRE-CAST.
Please prepare a contemporary musical theater piece, with accompaniment and in the correct key. No a cappella auditions please. Also, no need to prepare a monologue. Although the scenes are not very long?.. I will have you read directly from the script. ALL ROLES ARE COMPENSATED. I HAVE ONE EQUITY CONTRACT AVAILABLE. Callbacks will be held a s necessary. CASTING WILL BE COMPLETED BY MIDDLE OF FEBRUARY.
These roles are great and demand great actors and singers. Like most theatre SUNDAY is truly an ensemble show. I do hope you consider auditioning for not only George and Dot; although I certainly understand their allure. I had the good fortune of directing this piece several years ago at John Carroll University and I know that all who participate will be moved by the power, the beauty and what Sondhiem and Lapine have to say about art and love. I am thrilled to be working on this piece again with professional actors. It is a piece that has haunted me as an artist and as a human being. . . I hope that it will haunt you.
THE PLAY:
Inspired by the art of Georges Seurat, the nineteenth-century pointilliste painter, specifically a painting entitled "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte". The first act takes place in Paris, France in the 1870's; primarily on the island of La Grande Jette. George seeks to create a work of art incorporating order, design, symmetry, balance and harmony. Unfortunately, burying oneself in one's work can often cause certain unforeseen repercussions.
In Act Two, we jump to 1984 where another George, the grandson of the aforementioned George Seraut, has been commissioned to create a piece of mechanical performance art to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his great-grandfather's painting. This present-day George, however, is at a creative impasse.
Sunday in the Park With George was originally staged as a Playwrights Horizons workshop production in July of 1983. It then opened at the Booth Theatre on May 2, 1984, with a cast that featured Mandy Patinkin (George) and Bernadette Peters (Dot/Marie). This production ran for 604 performances and went on to win Sondheim and Lapine the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for drama.
Production and Rehearsal dates:
Sunday in the Park with George will open on Friday, July 14 and run through
July 30, 2006. There will be 13 performances over this period. Rehearsals will
begin in late May/early June, dependent upon the cast's schedules. Rehearsals will generally be Sunday evening through Friday. Some of the original scenery will be used in this production.
