The Picture This Filmmakers Program at Cleveland State University=20
invites you to learn more about the art and craft of filmmaking!=A0The=20=

workshop "Sound for Film" will be offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday,=20=

January 13-15, from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. in room 107 of the Music and=20
Communication Building. The building is located at 2001 Euclid Ave.

=A0 The workshop will provide plenty of hands-on experience as you learn=20=

about the current trends for recording sound for film and in=20
post-production studios. Spend a half-day examining the latest=20
microphones, mixers, wireless technologies, electronic slates, and=20
recording decks and devices.=A0Later, learn the business of sound=20
recording for film.=A0On day two, you'll do location sound and learn the=20=

Art of Foley. The third day is an intensive introductory Pro-Tools=20
audio workshop.

Instructor Marlowe Taylor, MFA, has won awards and is recognized=20
nationally for his accomplishments in sound recording and as a studio=20
engineer.=A0He owns and operates a private commercial recording studio =
in=20
Cleveland.

The workshop may be taken for academic credit or noncredit.=A0For=20
academic credit, Cleveland State students may enroll in Communication=20
200, "Sound for Film," a 2-credit course.=A0The noncredit fee is $285.=A0=20=

Picture This is a series of activities in support of regional=20
filmmaking education and advancement. It is funded by the President's=20
Initiative Fund, a partnership of the Cleveland Foundation, the George=20=

Gund Foundation, the 1525 Foundation and Cleveland State University.

FUTURE WORKSHOPS (Dates to be announced)

1. Producing the Short Film
The producer of an independent film has a big job. Learn what it takes=20=

to do it right and protect your film from the pitfalls into which many=20=

filmmakers fall. Become trained in how to break down a screenplay,=20
budget for it, and schedule it to get the most for your money and keep=20=

your cast and crew happy. Learn how to make deals, hire a crew, get=20
permits, pick locations, manage the production, work with the editor=20
and market your film.

Instructor Kate Amer has been involved in the production of many films=20=

shot in the Cleveland area since her first, 1987's Light of Day. Her=20
work as production manager or production supervisor on such films as=20
Major League, Telling Lies in America, Renegade Force, House Arrest,=20
Against the Ropes and The Year That Trembled has brought her into=20
contact with numerous film professionals from around the country.

2. Advanced Screenplay Topics with Les Roberts
Learn advanced aspects of screenplay writing and narrative structure=20
from one of the region's most noted authors. Drawing on the=20
instructor's vast experience in writing for television and authoring=20
mystery novels, the workshop will include units on adapting from novel=20=

to screen and on the influence of mystery and film noir genres on=20
current trends in film and television. This workshop is for emerging=20
writers with at least one screenplay completed and established writers.=20=

It is limited to 15 people. All students must send a brief writing=20
sample to workshops coordinator Kim Neuendorf, Ph.D., at least one week=20=

before the start of the workshop (email to k.neuendorf at csuohio.edu).

Les Roberts has written dozens of novels and screenplays and won=20
numerous awards for his fiction. In addition, he writes for The Plain=20
Dealer and reviews films on WHK 1420 AM. The Mayor of Cleveland=20
declared Friday, June 17, 2005 as Milan Jacovich Day, the name of the=20
fictional Cleveland detective featured in 13 of Les Roberts=92 novels.
