HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WVIZ/PBS PROGRAM APPLAUSE FOR JANUARY 2006=20

Emmy Award-winning ideastreamsm production focuses on Northeast Ohio
arts and cultural activity=20

APPLAUSE, the Emmy Award-winning production of WVIZ/PBS ideastreamsm
hosted by Dee Perry spotlights Northeast Ohio's rich arts and cultural
scene. This month, APPLAUSE talks with famed Akron artist P.R. Miller,
honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a conversation with
one of his friends, Reverend Dr. Otis Moss Jr., looks at the Cleveland
Museum of Art and its renovation project, and enjoys a performance by
local pianist, Margarete Griebling Haigh.

Now in its eighth season, APPLAUSE airs on WVIZ/PBS ideastream Thursdays
at 7:30 pm, with regularly-scheduled repeat broadcasts on Saturdays at
6:30 pm and Sundays at 1pm.

Host Dee Perry welcomes Sheryl Sereda, director of education for the
Cleveland Botanical Gardens to talk about the garden's "Winter
Awakenings" series. Akron artist P.R. Miller, "The Grizzled Wizard,"
known for his artwork crafted from salvaged materials, is also
interviewed, discussing a selection of his latest work. And, Harvey
Webster, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, director of wildlife
resources talks about "What's New?", an exhibition of the latest
additions to the museum's collections.

David Cerone, president of the Cleveland Institute of Music, joins Dee
Perry to talk about the Institute's expansion project and what it means
for the Institute's future. Neal Hamilton - staff photographer for the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, also a musician, and painter,
shares an inspiring tale describing how his versatility got him through
a tragedy.  Marking the 20th anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. holiday, APPLAUSE examines the legacy of Dr. King in a conversation
with Reverend Dr. Otis Moss, Jr.  Pastor of Cleveland's Olivet
Institutional Baptist Church, Moss was one King's long time friends, and
a fellow civil rights leader.=20

The Cleveland Museum of Art and the organization's $258 million
renovation and expansion project is the focus of this edition of
APPLAUSE . A representative from the museum joins Dee Perry to talk
about this remarkable undertaking. The CMA boasts one of the oldest
performing arts, music, and film programs of any museum in the U.S.
APPLAUSE highlights upcoming events and activities produced and
presented by the museum, and happening throughout northeast Ohio. Some
lights may be dim at the Museum, but there's lots of energy flowing into
the community.

            APPLAUSE takes viewers for a road trip to the Massillon
Museum of Art for a tour of the facility and a conversation with
director Christine Fowler Shearer.  Also on this program, a performance
and conversation with local pianist, Margarete Griebling Haigh, and a
conversation with Cleveland painter Thomas Frontini whose exhibition is
on display at the Convivium33 Gallery.
