Here's more information about this delightful show!

"GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES"

Music by Jule Styne; Lyrics by Leo Robin
Book by Anita Loos and Joseph Fields
Adapted from the novel by Anita Loos

Anita Loos wrote "GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES" in 1923 to ease the boredom
of a transcontinental train ride. This zany script followed chorus girl
Lorelei Lee, who was fashioned after a professional lady well-known in
the Bohemian world of the 20's, and Dorothy, her constant companion,
whom Ms. Loos modeled after herself. The musical version tells the
story of the fun-loving and hedonistic gold digger Lorelei (a role made
famous on Broadway by Carol Channing in 1949 and on screen by Marilyn
Monroe in the 1950's, both of whom became known for their renditions of
the show's most famous song, "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend!") and
her sail aboard the Ile de France to Paris with her chum Dorothy Shaw,
another ex-Follies girl.=20

Lorelei and Dorothy are about to embark on the Ile de France on a cruise
to Europe, where Lorelei is to marry the delightfully rich Gus Esmond,
son of America's Button King. Unfortunately, Gus announces at the last
minute two disturbing developments: first that his father insists he
stay behind for an important button conference, so he can't travel with
the girls, and second that he has heard worrying news about a new
invention called the zipper, which just might ruin his great button
empire! =20

The girls set about enjoying the cruise without Gus. They have plenty
of help, notably from the American Olympic Team who are also en route to
Paris. Other characters on board include Mrs. Spofford, the richest
widow in Philadelphia, and her son Henry, who takes to Dorothy in a big
way, as well as an English couple - Sir Francis and Lady Beekman, who
has a tiara that Lorelei just knows would look best on her own blonde
head! And then there is Josephus Gage, a hearty young man who turns out
to be America's Zipper King! When Lorelei gets a wireless message from
Gus that his father has found out about a little escapade of hers with a
revolver in Little Rock and it looks like the wedding is off, it is only
logical that she would turn her attention to Josephus and Sir Francis.

Eventually, Lorelei succeeds in getting her tiara and her Gus, and
arranges a merger between the button business and the zipper business
that looks to bring success and lots more diamonds in her future!

The score is packed with lively, chipper melodies which evoke the
fancy-free age of the late twenties, such as "A Little Girl From Little
Rock," "Bye Bye Baby," the title song, and of course, the best known
song from the score, "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend." =20

The score, which has music by Jule Styne (Gypsy, Funny Girl, Sugar) and
lyrics by Leo Robin (Lorelei), is packed with lively, chipper melodies
that neatly evoke the fancy-free age of the late twenties. In addition
to "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," other tuneful melodies in the
show include "A Little Girl From Little Rock", "I Love What I'm Doing",
"Just A Kiss Apart", "Bye Bye Baby", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", and
"I'm A Tingle, I'm Aglow." =20
