The Miss Cleveland Royalty Court Program needs community support! I cannot
do this for the kids by myself I need 50 volunteers over competition weekend
for this to be successful.
Our Community service youth group is looking for staff, dressing room aides
for the girls, back stage support, Ushers, decorating crew, tear down crew,
West Side United Church of Christ - 3800 Bridge Ave, Cleveland, February
11th & 12th, Saturday 1:00 PM TO 4:00 PM, Sunday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Imagine! A competition in which young ladies vie for the opportunity to
represent their city to provide more than 2,500 hours of community service.
This is the Miss Cleveland Royalty Court!
A "non-beauty" contest where the winners work hard to make a difference in
their community, work with segments of life they may never have seen before,
and gracefully mature in the process. So unlike most pageants where the
contestants spend a lot of money, get their crowns and are never heard from again.
A commitment for over 2,500 hours is quite a responsibility for the girls
and their families. It means few free weekends, no summers, missed family
vacations, doing studying and homework whenever they can (while keeping up
grades), and a social life that mainly revolves around the program. The girls give
unselfishly of their time, talent, and love to the people in their community.
All young ladies from Cuyahoga County between the ages of 3 to 19, in 5 age
divisions, are eligible to compete for titles in The Miss Cleveland Royalty
Court. They are scored by an independent panel of judges on the bases of
their individual interviews; on poise and talent in their performances, and by
their appearance and introductions in the evening gown portion of the
competition. There are no points scored for "beauty".
Our contestants are your typical "next door girls". As one of our Mom's
said, "They like to climb trees and play in the mud just like the rest of the
kids." And, they like to dress up, perform their talent routines, and give
their time for their community.
The members of the Miss Cleveland Royalty Court act as "Goodwill
Ambassadors" for the City of Cleveland performing community service projects and
appearing at several charitable, civic, entertainment, and sports events during
their reigning year.
This non-profit program is supported (but not funded) by Cleveland Mayor
Frank Jackson and Ohio Governor Bob Taft's office. Several of the young ladies
and the program itself have received letters and Certificates of Recognition
from Mayor Jane Campbell, former Mayor Michael White, the Cleveland City
Council, Cuyahoga County Commissioners, members of the Ohio House of
Representatives and Senate, Governor Bob Taft, US Senator George Voinovich, and President
George Bush.
Its members, staff, and parents will spend more than 2,500 hours in
community service during 2006.
In the past 5 years the young ladies have volunteered over 15,000 hours to
many local organizations.
The Miss Cleveland Royalty Court Program is the only one of it's kind in the
country!
