            4th ANNUAL
UP FROM THE
RIVER FESTIVAL
Friday and Saturday, February 10, 11
Shows start at 8:00 PM
The Fourth Annual "UP FROM THE RIVER" Festival, featuring ALL ORIGINAL MUSIC by eight Northeast Ohio groups and daytime music workshops.
  Friday night's lineup
• Donkey Engine
Good things arise from full moon nights in the Allegheny National Park in Pennsylvania. Like this eclectic and old-timey band that came together to pass the night once the sun set on the campground. Donkey Engine features Dan Solmen on vocals and fiddle, Wes Anderson on vocals and guitar, Aaron Moore on upright bass, and Chet Meade on djembe.
• Carlos Jones (solo)
"Carlos Jones is to Cleveland reggae what Jim Brown is to Cleveland running backs: the undisputed champ. With Jones at the forefront of the scene for more than 25 years -- first in I-Tal, then in First Light -- this city's reggae following was practically built upon his back...” (Cleveland Scene Magazine) Come see this rare solo appearance by Cleveland's undisputed reggae master!
• the John Turner Band
John Turner is Kent's best kept secret singer/songwriter: An easy-going guy with an easy-going voice to guide us through the curves of life's ride. A veteran of the music business for years, he's played everything from bluegrass to calypso. He's backed by some of Kent's finest, most notably Rockin' Robin Montgomery on piano.
• Ryan Humbert
Ryan Humbert plays original rock with touches of country, punk, folk, and more. Humbert's music will leave you with a tear in your eye, a bruise on your leg, and a hangover the next morning.

  Saturday night's lineup:

Just added: Free concert by Charity of Big Leg Emma from 6:00 to 8:00 before the main show

Hal Walker grew up in Kent, Ohio blowing the harmonica along the banks of the Cuyahoga river. As a veteran performer in Ohio, Hal's honest and passionate style delights audiences of all ages. His songs celebrate work, community, environment, local history and geography. His claim to fame is a song, "My State, Ohio," that incorporates the 88 counties of Ohio into a wonderfully sing-able song. He composes and improvises on the piano, guitar, harmonica, jew's harp, and the "banakula." He is a roster artist for Young Audiences of Greater Cleveland and the Arts Learning program of the Ohio Arts Council. Hal Walker is a teacher, choral director, actor, and inventor. With 10 years of work in the Ohio schools, he brings the joy of music into the daily lives of children.
Kedric Wolfe: Actor, yoga teacher and writer of numerous award winning solo performance works, "Let Me Explain, Warren's Story and the poignant and painful Paper Thin Walls, to name a few, has agreed to shake off a little rust by shouldering a portion of this evening's MC responsibilities. CAUTION: Audience "active involvement" may be required.

• the David Mayfield Band
Prepare yourselves for a night of fast, furious, and fabulous pickin’, bluegrass style. The David Mayfield Band is led by multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and in-demand session musician, David Mayfield. Joining him are Paul Kovac on guitar, Bill Lestock on fiddle, father David Mayfield on bass, and Jim Metz on banjo.
• Guild the Lily
Musical imposters Dalenski Galgozkski, Johanna Reynoldskovich, and Warrenminsk Henrivoskoviniski will impersonate various local songwriters and musicians. Using period instruments (one four-string, two six-string), the trio weaves a confusing mix of musical nonentities, ill conceived social commentary, and totally misunderstood quips that are really not heard (they tell them to each other not the audience). To be missed - or not. I mean, not to be missed!
• Poontwang
All girls. All twang. All original. Need we say more? Poontwang is Laurie Howard on banjo and percussion; Jen Maurer on 'lectric guitar, accordion, and percussion; Chittlin' Mayfield on guitar and tambourine (yes, we admit to playing tambourine!); and Sarah Rolan on bass and flugelhorn. Featuring "a little bit of rock, a little bit of roll, a little bit of heaven music for your soul" (plus a healthy dose of twang), this is NE Ohio's hottest all-girl band!
• the Kidney Brothers
The Numbers Band brothers, Jack and Bob, strip their music down to its bare essence and include new material not performed by the entire band. Their music is blues based and fused with theater, rock n roll, and energy to burn! The Kidney Brothers’ live is a rare treat!

  Saturday Show Features
