=93Victor guides the actor right to the truth, and to a very specific truth,
which is really rare. He creates an atmosphere of total safety.
Sometimes I wanted to smack him on the head when he directed me!
He insists that every moment be honest, specific, and fully alive.
I absolutely loved working with him.=94

Megan Mullally, Karen Walker on Will & Grace
Emmy Award, Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

=93Vic first directed me in an outrageous comedy off-Broadway
called Talking Minks, and he is, easily, one of=20
the best directors I=92ve worked with.
I recommended to a young actor on "The West Wing"=20
that he take Vic's acting class in L.A, and the=20
change in his work, and in HIM, after only a few months was astonishing.
His tendency to dramatize was gone and his sense of truth and commitment
to the moment much, much stronger. He had more confidence, more presence,
more charisma=ADwhich can't be taught, of course-
-but it emerged with the stronger sense of self=20
he developed under Vic's tutelage."

Richard Schiff, Toby on The West Wing
Emmy Award, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

=93Victor=92s ability to facilitate honest, unembellished communication
between peopleis phenomenal. He=92s not satisfied until each moment
is specific and perfectly clear. His understanding of Sanford Meisner=92s=
 work=AD
and Meisner was a genius, certainly=AD
is so complete that people who=92ve worked on the Meisner exercises
for years feel they=92re brand new when they work with Vic.=94

Laura Innes, =93Dr. Carrie Weaver=94 on ER

Emmy-nominated, Best Supporting Actress/Drama Series

Emmy-nominated, Best Director/Drama series, The West Wing

Victor D'Altorio
Meisner technique and scene study classes

L.A. Weekly Critics Best Director 2000

Chicago's most recommended acting teacher
by agents and casting directors 1993-98

Good acting is personal.
The character is you--always you--
Living truthfully under imaginary circumstances.

Each character you play lives within your own boundaries
for expressiveness, depth of feeling, and specificity of response.

A new 8-week Meisner class session will begin on Sunday March 12, 2006.
Sunday Evening Class is 5-8pm. Limited to 12 people

A new 8-week Scene Study class will begin on Wednesday March 15, 2006.
Wednesday Evening Class is 7-10pm Limited to 8 people

The Scene Study class is available first to=20
students currently enrolled in the Meisner class,=20
and then to those who have completed at least one session of the Meisner=
 class.

The length of the repetition class is based on 4=20
students per hour,so an enrollment of 12 people=20
is a 3 hour class, 8 people is a 2 hour class, 16 is a 4 hour class, etc.

Both classes are 8 weeks long, and meet once per week.

Discounted price for Meisner class: $350

Cost for class is $400 with a $50 discount if the=20
full amount is paid before the first class.
Cost for a second class is $150 if paid in full by the first class.

Contact: vdaltorio at neo.rr.com to set up an interview.

About the work:
Singers spend hours vocalizing up and down the scales.
Dancers stretch and bend at a bar.
The actor must ALSO exercise the mechanism that=20
allows for flexibility and freedom of=20
expression--the ability to listen and respond=20
truthfully, fully, freely and spontaneously.=20
First as oneself. Then, with the addition of a=20
specific set of imaginary circumstances. Sanford=20
Meisner's repetition exercise is the basis for the work.

Particular emphasis is placed on getting one=92s attention off of one=92s=
 self,
which means listening and responding to the other person
in an honest and SPECIFIC way.

The goal: to experience a flow state of mind and heart,
free of conventionalized behaviors and preconceived responses.

1. Lose self-consciousness by focusing outwardly.
2. Respond to what's happening -NOT to what's expected or desired.
3. Unblock and expand your range of expression.
4. Surprise yourself with your own unanticipated response.
5. Relate to the imaginary circumstance in a much deeper and more specific=
 way.
6. Allow the dialogue to ride on the moment-don't=20
play the meaning of the lines.

About the teacher:
Victor D'Altorio is a teacher, director, and=20
actor. From 1990-98 he was one of Chicago's most=20
respected, most recommended acting teachers at=20
The Actors' Center, the Windy City's best known=20
professional training program. From 1998-02 he=20
had an acting studio in Los Angeles, where he=20
taught class and privately coached many actors=20
for TV and film. He was the L.A. Weekly Critics'=20
Theatre Director of the Year for 2000, and was=20
asked by L.A. County to adapt his work with=20
actors for teens at high risk for HIV infection=20
for an innovative California state funded program=20
to educate youth in better, more truth-centered=20
communication skills. He is a graduate of=20
Northwestern University, and also of the William=20
Esper Studio, NYC, where he completed the formal,=20
2-year Meisner work, which is the basis for his teaching.
