Red Hen Celebrates Womens History Month with Staged Reading
In honor of Womens History Month, Red Hen Productions presents a staged reading of This One Thing I Do, the life story of Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
This One Thing I Do performances will be Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at 7:30 pm, March 9 through the 19th, 2006, downtown at the Cleveland Arts Theater (located next to the Old Euclid Tavern),11619-23 Euclid Avenue. Tickets are $10, $8 for students.
This One Thing I Do, by Claire Braz-Valentine, takes the audience through the struggle for women's rights from 1901 through the end of Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton's lives. This struggle saw both women fight every day and step of the way to get women's voting rights, equal pay and equal rights. Although their struggle of voting rights was not realized before death, 7 states had passed the suffrage act. The important work these 2 women did laid the path for our generation to enjoy Equal Rights in many areas. The struggle continues and it is important to understand how far we have come. This show will be directed by Rose Leininger, Artistic Director for Red Hen Theater.
Red Hen Productions, Clevelands Feminist Theatre, creates theatre by and about women. We build a framework in which to take risks, initiate change and empower women. By developing bridges into the community, we hope to challenge assumptions and demonstrate that change is possible.
For reservations or information call the Red Hen Box Office at (216) 556-0910 or visit the website at www.feministtheatre.org
###
Its never the case that a work of art is directly responsible for changing the world. Only activism, direct political action, does that. But art can help change people, who then decide to change their own lives, change their neighborhood, their community, their society, the world.
