JOB DESCRIPTION FOR 
Director of The School of Gymnastics
Fairmount Center for the Creative and Performing Arts

This is a part-time position.  Hours are flexible.  To begin in June of
2006.

I. POSITION DESCRIPTION 

A.      Position Objective

*         The Gymnastics  Director will report to the Executive Artistic
Director and provide leadership to the programming, staff and facility of
the School of Gymnastics.   Moreover the Gymnastics Director will be
responsible for a variety of other initiatives including parent relations,
marketing, safety protocols, and competition programming for the School of
Gymnastics.  The Director will perform other duties as assigned by the
Executive Director required to help implement the overall goals of the
School of Gymnastics. 

Additional responsibilities include training, managing, reviewing and
supervising part-time gymnastics instructors and facilitating communications
between the administrative office and the School of Gymnastics.  Development
of a staff handbook and all policies pertaining to the School of Gymnastics
will also be the responsibility of the Gymnastics Director.  

B.      Primary Requirements and Skills

*         Requires strong background in Gymnastics and Gymnastics Education.

*         Must be physically prepared to perform the duties of the
Gymnastics Director. 
Strength, flexibility, endurance, agility and quickness are vital
attributes.

*         Must be proficient in beginning, intermediate and advanced floor
routines.

*         Must feel comfortable and proficient with spotting students as
necessary during gymnastics exercises.

*         Requires strong management skills. 

*         Director must be Safety Certified.  Must be have a working
knowledge of the USAG Safety Manuals and be diligent in enforcing all safety
protocols.  CPR and First Aid Certifications are preferred. 

*         Must enjoy working with children and have empathy for their
emotional and physical needs.  

*         Must have patience and teaching skills that balance discipline
with love.  Response to a student with anger, rudeness, or physical force
cannot be tolerated.

*         Requires a desire to work with parents and a commitment to always
portray a highly personable and friendly demeanor when consulting,
counseling and describing a child's progress and course of training.

*         Must be familiar with all aspects of necessary gymnastics
equipment, with knowledge of setup, maintenance and purchase.

*         Requires the hiring and firing as well as direct supervision of
part-time staff engaged in gymnastics training.

*         Requires a desire to learn, through self study, outside workshops
and seminars in order to embrace new gymnastics philosophies and training
concepts.

*         Requires proficiency with computers the following:  Microsoft
Word, Excel, e-mail, the internet.  Knowledge of web design or maintenance
is a plus.

*         Requires the ability to speak in layman's terms about gymnastics
training, competition, and the technical aspects of a student's training,
progress and aspirations.  

*         Requires regular and direct interaction with the Administrative
Director.

C.      Principal Responsibilities

*         Serves as Director of the School of Gymnastics, providing mission
critical leadership, staff procurement, training and supervision, program
development and competition management and any other necessary initiatives
determined to be the responsibility of the School of Gymnastics.

*         Serves as instructor for director-led gymnastics workshops and
oversees the instruction of other teachers during one-on-one or other open
training sessions.

*         Develops, integrates and oversees the workshop programming for
each quarter.

*         Provide strong oversight of gymnastics staff, ensuring safety
protocols, and appropriate teacher/student interactions.

*         Serves as collaborative marketer, spokesperson, and mentor of
staff and students to integrate and oversee the aspirational and actual
strategic plan for the School of Gymnastics

*         Develops yearly budgets and budget requests for the School of
Gymnastics

*         Serves as competition coordinator for all competitions planned for
the season.

*         Maintains information on the Gymnastics portion of the Fairmount
Web Site.

*         Maintains the gymnastics equipment - or provides management of
maintenance.  Determines when outside vendors are required to perform
repairs.

D.      Supervisory and Personnel Functions 

*         Hires, trains, manages, reviews and supervises all members of
gymnastics staff.

E.      Administrative Functions 

*         Holds a position on the Fairmount Director staff and will be asked
to report progress and needs to the Executive Director monthly and the Board
of Trustees yearly.

*         Develops and maintains online documentation, information and
events on the Gymnastics Web Site.  (Training will be provided, if
necessary) 

*         Develops and maintains a Gymnastics handbook for students and a
staff handbook for trainers outlining the mission, the policies and
regulations that drive the School of Gymnastics.

F.      Leadership Functions 

*         Fosters a positive, energized and friendly environment for the
School of Gymnastics.

*         Develops and maintains knowledge of the Fairmount Mission. 

*         Through on-going training, maintain a working knowledge of cutting
edge gymnastics training concepts and routines.

*         Stays involved and attuned to Gymnastics around the country that
may have value for the School of Gymnastics

*         Serves as a collaborator with other Fairmount School Directors and
other full and part-time staff engaged in the administration, marketing, and
education programs at The Fairmount Center.

G.     Liaison Functions 

*         Represents the Fairmount Center in a positive, upbeat manner as a
spokesperson, as director and in all informal settings.

*         Maintains welcoming and collaborative working relationships with
other members of the Fairmount Center Staff and the gymnastics teaching
staff. 

*         Maintains friendly and collaborative, working relationships with
members of other gymnastics schools, gyms, art centers and other
organizations related the activities of the School of Gymnastics
