A sophisticated farce about an imagined meeting between the famous theater =
divas Sarah Bernhardt and Eleonora Duse=2E The two actresses are scheduled to=
 perform back=2Dto=2Dback productions of the play THE LADY OF THE CAMELLIAS by =
Alexandre Dumas=2C Fils=2E Although Duse=27s production is to be given in Bernhar=
dt=27s theater=2C the two actresses have yet to meet=2E Both acting companies exp=
ect huge fireworks between the two divas=2C and do what they can to stay out =
of the way=2E Into this tense situation comes Ivan=2C a young Russian anarchist=
=2C who threatens to blow up everybody in the theater unless his comrades are=
 released from prison=2E Ivan=2C despite his rantings about the struggle of the=
 Russian proletariat=2C seems to know a lot about the theater=2C and indeed tur=
ns out to be one of that new breed of theater person=2C generally derided as =
being useless=2C a DIRECTOR=21 Ivan=27s bluff is called by the local authorities=2C=
 who have no intention of releasing their prisoners=2C and the two divas moll=
ify Ivan by promising him a letter of recommendation to a theater in a far=2D=
off country=2C and showing him how to escape the local gendarmes=2E
