LAKE ERIE COLLEGE THEATRE=20

PRESENTS THE MUSICAL, QUILTERS =20

- STUDENT PRODUCTION TO BE FEATURED APRIL 6-9, 2006

=20

Lake Erie College announces the spring 2006 production of the musical,
Quilters by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek. Performances are
scheduled for April 6, 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 9 at 2:30
p.m. in the C.K. Rickel Theatre in the Lake Erie College Fine Arts
Building. The production is under the direction of John Huston, Director
of Theatre.

=20

Quilters by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek blends a series of
interrelated scenes into a rich mosaic that captures the sweep, beauty,
terror and harsh challenges of frontier life. Illuminating stories
contained in various patches or blocks with music, dance and drama
depicts the women on the frontier during girlhood, marriage,
spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death. But, with this, there
is also love, warmth, rich and lively humor and moving spectacle of
simple human dignity and steadfastness in the face of adversity.
Originally developed and produced at the Denver Center Theatre company,
this joyous and moving celebration of American Womanhood became a record
setting regional theatre success before its presentations on Broadway
and at the Edinburgh Festival. Combining music, dance movement and
scenes of vivid dramatic intensity, the play pays eloquent tribute to
the courage and spirit of our nation's pioneer woman. The original
Broadway production earned six Tony Award nominations, including Best
Musical, Best Book and Best Score.
