A sophisticated farce about an imagined meeting between the famous theater=20
divas Sarah Bernhardt and Eleonora Duse. The two actresses are scheduled to=
=20
perform back-to-back productions of the play THE LADY OF THE CAMELLIAS by=20
Alexandre Dumas, Fils. Although Duse's production is to be given in Bernhar=
dt's=20
theater, the two actresses have yet to meet. Both acting companies expect h=
uge=20
fireworks between the two divas, and do what they can to stay out of the wa=
y.=20
Into this tense situation comes Ivan, a young Russian anarchist, who=20
threatens to blow up everybody in the theater unless his comrades are relea=
sed from=20
prison. Ivan, despite his rantings about the struggle of the Russian=20
proletariat, seems to know a lot about the theater, and indeed turns out to=
 be one of=20
that new breed of theater person, generally derided as being useless, a=20
DIRECTOR! Ivan's bluff is called by the local authorities, who have no inte=
ntion=20
of releasing their prisoners, and the two divas mollify Ivan by promising h=
im=20
a letter of recommendation to a theater in a far-off country, and showing=20
him how to escape the local gendarmes. =20
