DANCECleveland Announces 2006-2007 Season

CLEVELAND, OH (March 22, 2006) -- DANCECleveland announces its 2006-2007
performance season featuring companies from across the nation, around =
the
world, and even from the =93Lunar World.=94  MOMIX, returning to =
Cleveland after
its near sell-out performance in 2005, will perform its newest =
multimedia
production entitled Lunar Sea and the internationally renowned BatSheva,
direct from Israel to Cleveland, will perform Ohad Naharin=92s Deca =
Dance.
Other companies on the season line-up include Chicago=92s hot Hubbard =
Street
2, the innovative Philadanco! (aka the Philadelphia Dance Company) and
completing the =93heavenly season=94 is Luna Negra Dance Theater, a =
major Latino
dance company.  Subscriptions will go on sale May first for the

collaboration with other presenting partners.  DANCECleveland Executive
Director, Pam Young, says, =93Continuing a decade long history of
collaborating with community organizations, such as Cuyahoga Community
College Performing Arts and Cain Park/The City of Cleveland Heights, =
allows
us to bring the best national and international modern dance companies =
in
the world to northeast Ohio audiences in a fiscally responsible manner.
This year we are pleased to include the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of
Cleveland as a co-presenter of the Israeli-based BATSHEVA performance =
and
Lorain Community College=92 Stocker Art Center as co-presenter of the =
Luna
Negra Dance Theater family performance.

Hubbard Street 2 (HS2) is a vibrant company of six dancers performing
repertory that mirrors the variety and vitality of the Hubbard Street =
Dance
Chicago=92s main company. They will perform on Friday July 28, 8 pm at =
Cain
Park=92s Evans Amphitheater. Led by Artistic Director Julie Nakagawa
B=F6ttcher, who danced with the Cleveland Ballet, the company performs =
fresh
and innovative works created by emerging choreographers. They have
performed internationally in Germany, South Africa and Switzerland, as =
well
as touring nationally each year. The Chicago Sun-Times=92 Hedy Weiss
describes HS2 as =93a wonderful spicy stew of influences, brilliantly

BATSHEVA will perform Thursday, October 12, 8 p.m., at the Palace =

Playhouse Square Center. First presented by DANCECleveland almost 20 =

ago, this company continues to break modern dance barriers. Since its
founding in1964 by the legendary Martha Graham, Batsheva has become a =
true
leader on the performing arts global map. The Village Voice=92 Deborah =

smooth=85but hurl it and it becomes a weapon.=94 A compact and dynamic
organization, Batsheva gives over 200 performances a year in Israel and

PHILADANCO performs Saturday, November 4, 8 pm at the Ohio Theatre at
Playhouse Square Center. The dancers of this 35-year-old,
Philadelphia-based company have been praised for their =93silken
grace=85, perfect form=85excitingly rendered=94 by the New York Times. =
They
consistently receive critical acclaim and perform works by influential
choreographers including Donald Byrd, Dianne McIntyre, Jawole Willa Jo
Zollar and Ronald K. Brown. Joan Myers Brown, the company=92s Executive =
and
Artistic Director, was recently honored at the Kennedy Center=92s =
=93Masters of
African-American Choreography=94 series. Brown, owner of the for-profit
Philadanco School of Dance for 46 years and of the not-for-profit dance
company for 36 years, will lead a public Round Table focusing on her
experiences in establishing a woman-owned business and the non-profit

Luna Negra Dance Theater will perform on Saturday, February 3, 8 pm at =
the
Ohio Theatre in Playhouse Square Center.  Formed in 1999 by Cuban born
Eduardo Vilaro, this ensemble is dedicated to performing contemporary =
dance
created by Latino choreographers.  Vilaro says, =93I wanted to work with
choreographers who would explore their Latino heritage and add that =
culture
and identity to their creations.=94  The 10 member company has a =
repertory of
unusual, original work distinguished by its decidedly Latino slant.  The
Chicago Sun-Times praises the company for, =93its virtuosity, its sleek
professionalism, and a creative spirit deeply rooted in a panoramic =
vision
of Latin culture.=94  Choreographers for the company include Eduardo =
