I think that the problem with theater in the US is
that it's seen as just entertainment. I see it with
all other art forms in this country as well. In
ancient Greece and through many other civilizations
throughout history, art was humanity's way of
describing their place in the cosmos and their reason
for being. That is why artists were held in such high
esteem. My personal opinion is that art isn't mearly
entertainment, it is a way to expand the conscious
mind to see things a different way and to bring light
to the darkness. I think theater and art are hugely
important to the intellectual as well as spiritual
development as a society. Hopefully we are not loosing
that. I do know that they are a small and growing
number of individuals who feel the same way as I do
though. 
So that is my opinion.
