A quick reminder... next week The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival will hold auditions for our 9th season.

This summer, in rotating repertory, The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival will perform Shakespeare’s classic, KING LEAR, and the Cleveland premiere of Ryan J-W Smith’s comedy SWEET LOVE ADIEU. These two shows will perform from July 13 through August 13 in a number of free outdoor vendors throughout the greater Cleveland area, including Lincoln Park in Tremont, the Shaker Heights Colonnade, Tri-C West in Parma, Willoughby’s Fine Arts Association, and a special performance at Cleveland’s Ingenuity Festival.

Auditions will be held Monday, May 8 and Tuesday, May 9 starting at 6:00 pm at the Cleveland Play House, with call-backs on Saturday, May 13.

All roles are available and the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival supports non-traditional casting. Rehearsals begin on or around June 1st.

Please prepare two contrasting classical monologues; at least one of them should be Shakespearean.

  Notes about the plays:
-Some characters in each show will be required to kiss members of the opposite sex. There are also instances where characters will have to kiss members of the same sex.
-In LEAR, the roles of Cordelia and The Fool will probably be played by the same actor.

Please call 877-280-1646 or send an email CSF_Auditions at yahoo.com to schedule an audition date and time. Choose a date and time and we will contact you with as close a match as we are able.

All roles will be paid a very small stipend.

  SWEET LOVE ADIEU
  By Ryan J-W. Smith
  Directed by Larry Nehring

Romeo & Juliet meets Moliere! The beautiful Anne, unwillingly betrothed to Lord Edmund, a man twice her age, meets William, the man of her dreams. As the clock ticks away her freedom, this young man and his two friends must find a way to rescue her from the evil Lord Edmund. And hardest of all they must gain the approval of Anne’s two best friends and her mother!

Romance, wit, rhymed couplets, cross-dressing and swordplay! Everything you could ask for in a Shakespearean comedy, written by one of Britain’s best young playwrights.

  KING LEAR
  By William Shakespeare
  Directed by Derek Koger

Two family dramas play out across the British court and countryside. The aging King Lear retires and divides his kingdom amongst his three daughters Regan, Goneril, and Cordelia. However custody and care for the King himself pits each against the other. The court is thrown into chaos, with Cordelia banished to France and the King’s most trusted officer, Kent, also banned from court. Into this turmoil Lord Gloucester’s bastard son Edmund plots a rise to power by the betrayal of his own family and the destruction of everything in his path.

The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival mission is to produce exceptional, accessible theater, drawing influence from the works of William Shakespeare. We celebrate the talents of local artists in all aspects of production and excite contemporary audiences with the timeless themes of great theatre. We offer free summer performances in a festive atmosphere, educational outreach programs, and creative collaborations with other groups.
