Imagine the opportunity for your students to see world famous works of =
art and literature come to life on the stage. We offer school-day =
matinee performances of plays which provide an educational experience =
through a curriculum-based program called Project STAGE (Students =
Through Acting Gain Education). This program features off-site visits to =
Weathervane performances and lectures on theatre to area classrooms. If =
this sounds like a welcome respite from the chaos of the school year =
please read on.
Our 2006-2007 Project STAGE program offers three plays- the American =
classic Fences by August Wilson, All My Sons by Arthur Miller and the =
world's most famous play, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Through this =
eduaction program we provide you with pre-play study guides which =
prepare your class for the performance and the work of literature that =
they are about to see. We include post-performance discussions that =
engage them in thoughtful discussion with the director, actors and their =
fellow students. You also have the option of a follow-up visit from the =
Education Director to further discuss the experience of live theatre.
This year we are offering this special program in October 2006 (Fences), =
January 2007 (All My Sons) and February 2007 (Romeo and Juliet) only, =
and, the eight performances are filling-up fast. Romeo and Juliet =
tickets are only $8 per or $7 each for groups of 15 or more. Fences and =
All My Sons tickets are all $8 for everyone. With this letter we are =
pleased to offer (1) free ticket for teachers for every 15 student =
tickets purchased.
Fences - October 17 & 24, 2006 at 10:00 am
All My Sons - January 23 & 30, 2007 at 10:00 am
Romeo and Juliet -February 20, 22 & 28 and March 1, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.
Weathervane Playhouse and its programs serve as a vital artistic =
resource for the young people of Akron and Northeast Ohio. We continue =
to believe that theater is a tool for self-discovery, and that through =
process of performance and class-work, the performing arts bind us all =
together. The arts teach us to describe, think critically, and question =
all of the basic truths we have come to take for granted. Weathervane's =
goal is to reach the highest level of artistic achievement while =
providing a wide base for the community to gain experience in all facets =
of the arts.
Weathervane is committed to providing engaging, innovative, high-quality =
theater education to students of every cultural heritage, age, ability, =
and level of interest. Our Education program strives to help students =
develop their voices, bodies, and imaginations using theater skills, =
which help them, as they grow -- both as artists and as people. We have =
dedicated ourselves to the belief that young people should have the =
opportunity to participate in theater as both audience members and =
artists. Weathervane Youth Theatre creates this connection by joining =
the practical and the real. In our classes, our productions and in our =
entire performing arts program we push the students to "choose to be =
challenged."=20
Had enough of preparing daily for proficiency tests and fretting about =
levies? Want to allow your students to stretch their creativity and =
improve their critical thinking skills? Let us at Weathervane, teach =
your classes for a couple of days. To arrange for this wonderful =
enriching program for your students and to book your tickets call the =
Director of Education at 330-836-2323 Ext. 17.
