You have known Michael Searching Bear for his wonderful hand-crafted
Searching Bear Flutes in the past. His passion and interest has always been in the
music arena. He is a perfectionist and feels it lends well to this craft. Now
enjoy the wonderful tones of his flutes and musical background at the Kent
Stage.
Michael began incorporating the flute into his music in 1996 and soon found
that he desired to make them for himself. Under the careful guidance of
Raymond Redfeather, Michael began to learn the craft. Of Cherokee and Powhatan
descent, Michael desires to keep the craft alive and pass on the traditions of
the flute. Nearly a lost art, the Native American Wood Flute is experiencing a
resurgence in popularity. The haunting melodies and soothing tones have found
a wide and accepting audience in today's hectic society.
Michael has dedicated his life to educating and teaching his Native culture
and using his expertise in the flute as a catalyst for this training. With the
release of his CD, Voice From Within, Michael has been performing concerts
to select locations and is in the process of his next CD. Michael is also in
the process of putting together a Native American performance which will
highlight the talents of many Native American performers and will show off Native
traditional music, Native dress, dance and storytelling. Michael can also be
seen working with the non-profit organization, Kulture Kids, and its Artistic
Director (Robin Pease) wlll also be featured in this concert.
