To be performed July 6-9, 2006.  Director David Van Gaasbeek=20

The play is based in fictional East Hempstead, Ohio, and the director =
and
the assistant director are looking forward to doing the play that they =
have
so meticuously cast.  However, before the first rehearsal, both the lead
actor and actress become unavailable and the director must recast the =
leads.
After reviewing her options, she decides reluctantly to cast the play =
with
two divas who can't stand each other's guts.  The play which looked like
such a sure shot is now a battle similar to a World War II battle as the
divas fight continuously over every aspect of the play and their lives.  =
By
the end, all hell is ready to break loose.  Titled "Rommel and Patton" =
after
the two legendary World War II generals who fought it out in North =
Africa,
this play is in two acts and will last one and one half hours.

The two lead roles have been cast (legitimately, but the explanation =
takes
more space that we have here in this newsletter!), but the four =
remaining
roles are "substantial, challenging, and NOT pre-cast."  Rehearsals are

gig. Instead, destiny literally struck in another way: in the form of a
busload of schoolgirls from Our Lady of Harrisburg. The girls were en =
route
to watch four other young men from Liverpool, England make history on =
The Ed
Sullivan Show. The four young Plaids died on impact. Tonight, we meet =
the
Plaids in musical limbo. Despite their shyness and the fact they've been
dead for nearly half a century, they must rally together and play that =
last
gig. That perfect concert. The one they never had the chance to play in
life. They must sing like their afterlives depend upon it. With a score
full of old favorites that include "Love is a Many Splendored Thing," =
"She
Loves You," and "Heart and Soul," Forever Plaid is a show not to be =

Implosion Press, publisher of epitome magazine, seeks poetry from =
Northeast
Ohio women of strong voice for its First Annual Paper Doll Poetry =
Chapbook
Contest. They seek poetry that exemplifies the diverse strength of =
women, as
well as the many trials and tribulations women must overcome. Winner
receives 20 copies of their chapbook and a feature space in epitome upon
publication.  All entrants will receive a copy of the winning chapbook.
Poems can be of any length and any content, but they MUST be written by
women of Northeast Ohio to be eligible (entrants must either be =
residents of
Northeast Ohio or have resided here within the past 20 years).  =

published poetry is accepted with proper credits.

Art on High: A Banner by Julian Stanczak for the New Akron Art Museum

Akron Art Museum, downtown Akron

As you walk or drive past the Akron Art Museum's construction site this
summer, you won't be able to miss seeing a new work of art by famed "Op"
artist Julian Stanczak (STAN-check) - not inside the building but on the
outside! Art on High will be on display from June 3 through Labor Day.

Stanczak was invited to create a bold, geometric image to be featured on =
a
16 by 14 foot banner. The banner will wrap around the Market/High =
streets
corner of the museum's 1899 building and be seen by the thousands of =
people
who travel downtown each day.

Art on High is part of a new trend among art museums to take art into =
the
streets and utilize new formats for visual expression, including =
banners,
billboards, digital screens and video projection. This exhibition =
project
offers a look at a new artwork by a distinguished artist in Akron's
collection and also highlights the construction of our new building. =20

Stanczak, who lives in Cleveland, is one of the preeminent members of =
the Op
(short for "optical") art movement that began in the 1960s. =
Characterized by
intense colors and crisp line formations that sometimes produce a =
vibrating
visual effect, Op art has been a vital part of abstract painting. =
Stanczak's
painting Dual Glare from 1970 is part of the museum's collection. =
Stanczak
and other Op artists are enjoying renewed popularity as their works have
been featured in recent exhibitions in New York and across the country. =
Art
on High brings Stanczak's newest-and largest-work to the Akron =
community. =20

Art on High is made possible by a generous grant from the John A. =
McAlonan
Fund of the Akron Community Foundation.=20

Call to Writers: "Most Romantic" story contest deadline June 10th

The Wilderness Center is sponsoring a "Most Romantic" story contest.
Stories should be about how the writer and his/her significant other =
met,
fell in love, or how their love has grown.  Winner of the contest will
receive two (2) tickets to the Wilderness Center's Romantic Moonlight
Serenade event on June 17th, a picnic basket for two (conjures up =
visions of
Yogi Bear and his pic-a-nic-a basket :-)), an overnight stay at the =
Amish

director and the assistant director are looking forward to doing the =
play that
they have so meticuously cast.  However, before the first =
rehearsal, both
the lead actor and actress become unavailable and the director must =
recast the
leads.  After reviewing her options, she decides reluctantly to =
cast the
play with two divas who can't stand each other's guts.  The play =
which
looked like such a sure shot is now a battle similar to a World War II =
battle
as the divas fight continuously over every aspect of the play and their
lives.  By the end, all hell is ready to break loose.  Titled
"Rommel and Patton" after the two legendary World War II =
generals who
fought it out in North Africa, this play is in two acts and will last =
one and
one half hours.</span></font></p>

we meet the Plaids in musical limbo. Despite their shyness and the fact

construction site this summer, you won’t be able to miss seeing a =
new
work of art by famed “Op” artist Julian Stanczak =
(STAN-check) - not
inside the building but on the outside!<i><span =
style=3D'font-style:italic'> Art
on High</span></i> will be on display from June 3 through Labor =
Day.</span></font></p>

Stanczak was invited to create a bold, geometric =
image to be
featured on a 16 by 14 foot banner. The banner will wrap around the =
Market/High
streets corner of the museum’s 1899 building and be seen by the =
thousands
of people who travel downtown each day.

Art on High is part =
of a new
trend among art museums to take art into the streets and utilize new =
formats
for visual expression, including banners, billboards, digital screens =
and video
projection. This exhibition project offers a look at a new artwork by a
distinguished artist in Akron’s =
collection
and also highlights the construction of our new building.  =

style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>Stanczak, who lives in </span></font><font size=3D2
  face=3DArial><span =
style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial'>Cleveland</span></font><font=

size=3D2 face=3DArial>, is one of
the preeminent members of the Op (short for “optical”) art =
movement
that began in the 1960s. Characterized by intense colors and crisp line
formations that sometimes produce a vibrating visual effect, Op art has =
been a
vital part of abstract painting. Stanczak’s painting Dual Glare from 1970 is part of =
the
museum’s collection. Stanczak and other Op artists are enjoying =
renewed
popularity as their works have been featured in recent exhibitions in =
New York and across
the country. Art on High =
brings Stanczak’s
newest—and largest—work to the Akron
community.
